The Who, What, When, Where, and How of the NAS Oceana Air Show

Airshows are a great time but require careful planning at least, if you want to maximize your trip and get the most out of it. With so many spectators ascending the beach all looking for the best place to catch the show, it’s important to have a few pointers before heading out. Here are some helpful tips so you can focus more on the pilots in the sky than logistics.

Who

The Naval Air Station Oceana air show is invoking the talents of many pilots this year, with stunts performed by the world-famous Blue Angels, Rhino Demo Team (VFA-106), and F-16 Viper Demonstration Team. Additionally, several civilian pilots will also be flying, including Bob Carlton, Jessy Panzer, Matt Younkin, Michael Goulian, and Skip Stewart. Firewalkers International Pyro will also be on the scene showcasing their explosive, choreographed antics.

What

What you can expect is two days of stunning performances and gratuitous action over the skies of beautiful Virginia Beach. The 2022 theme is “Back to the Beach” as a celebration of the airshow’s return after a two-year hiatus. Be prepared for a long day, excessive traffic, and plenty of walking. Water is provided throughout, but outside food and beverages are prohibited. Considering the increase in population, expect long lines.

When

September 17, 2022, and September 18, 2022, is when all of the action is cleared for takeoff. These dates are a Saturday and Sunday, respectively. You and your fellow spectators can expect world-renown aviation announcer Rob Reider to get the show started at 10:00 a.m. Even in September, Virginia Beach can be a warmer climate, especially during the hours of the NAS Oceana Air Show. Prepare accordingly, remember to pack sunblock, and stay hydrated.

Where

NAS Oceana 1750 Tomcat Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 23460 is where everything is going down. There are areas for viewing that are ticketed and available for purchase, as well as preferred parking, but both general admission and parking are free for the public to use.

How

Planning ahead can help you avoid unnecessary headaches while getting the most out of the airshows and your days in Virginia Beach. Military institutions have plenty of safety regulations, including the size of your bag, a ban on flying drones, and plenty of other prohibited items such as balloons, coolers, and pets. All the NAS Oceana 2022 Air Show information you’ll need can be found online to ensure that there aren’t any issues. Additionally, more information will be provided as the event draws nearer. It’s highly recommended that you check out the latest news available through official channels before heading out.
