Our Military at Naval Base Kitsap
Naval Base Kitsap took its present name and form when installations at Bremerton, Bangor, Keyport, Manchester and Jackson Park in Kitsap County were consolidated into a single entity June 4, 2004. Located on the lush Kitsap Peninsula in Washington state, the base encompasses more than 10,000 acres, supporting nearly 70 tenant commands. It is the largest naval installation in the Northwest and is the third largest in the United States. The base serves as the host command for the Navy’s fleet throughout the Pacific Northwest, providing installation services, programs and facilities to meet the needs of its hosted war-fighting commands, tenant activities and personnel.
Flag commands at Naval Base Kitsap include Commander, Navy Region Northwest; Commander, Submarine Group 9; and the John C. Stennis Strike Group. Other large commands and organizations include the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility; Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Keyport; Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest; Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet Logistics Center Puget Sound; Naval Hospital Bremerton; Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific; and the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion.
