Navy College Program
The Navy College Office Great Lakes is a full-service office that fully supports the Navy College Program. The Navy College Office Great Lakes is located in the Lifelong Learning Center in Building 617, Room 218. The Navy College Office Great Lakes is staffed by professional educational advisors who provide academic advisement to military personnel and their spouses on all matters relating to academic programs. Academic advisement includes but is not limited to on-base and off-base college programs, high school diploma/completion, work on a technical or occupational certificates, and academic skills enhancement. The Navy College Office Great Lakes provides SMART transcripts, SOC Networks, Partnership Schools, Career Advisement Tools, DANTES programs and degree road maps to ease the educational journey.

The on-base college program at Naval Station Great Lakes includes the College of Lake County, which offers various Associate Degrees, Columbia College of Missouri which offers various bachelor’s degrees. Southern Illinois University of Carbondale offers bachelor’s degrees in: Workforce, Education & Development, Electronic Systems Technology and Health Care Management. Webster University offers various master’s degrees and the Navy College Office Great Lakes also supports all accredited educational institutions. The Navy College Office Great Lakes is a fully staffed DANTES Testing Facility. This permits the testing of CLEP, DSST and ECE for college credits, ACT or SAT as needed and national exams such as PRAXIS, GRE Subject and Certification Exams. Additionally, the Navy College Office Great Lakes has electronic testing for AFIADL, DLPT and distance learning examinations from accredited educational institutions. Military members may also take the GED exam at the Navy College Office Great Lakes. The Navy College Office Great Lakes has the largest Navy College Learning Center in the Navy. The Navy College Learning Center is open 60 hours a week and hosts free learning programs to active duty members and their spouses.

The Navy College Office Great Lakes provides financial aid through the Navy’s Tuition Assistance (TA) program to all active duty Sailors and Marines. The current rate of TA is 100 percent. Active duty Marines and Sailors are strongly encouraged to utilize their TA to pursue their personal educational objectives. Morale, Welfare and
Recreation Department

The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at Naval Station Great Lakes provides Navy personnel (including active duty and retired military, reservists, DoD employees and family members) with a varied program of wholesome and constructive off-duty leisure activities that contribute to their quality of life while stationed here.

The MWR Department offers an abundance of recreational opportunities through its many wonderful facilities: fitness centers, swimming pools (indoor), beach, library, movie theater, doit- yourself car repair facility, outdoor skating rink, bowling center, climbing wall, golf course, ticket/travel office, marina, rental center, enlisted sailor program/facility, youth and family recreation centers, food and beverage facilities, child care centers and much more! In addition, the MWR Department hosts concerts by internationally known entertainers and community festivals that provide seasonal family entertainment. The three Child Development Centers pride themselves in offering quality developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. In addition, Kid’s World at Glenview has a before and after school program. All centers offer quality care through life and learning situations to enhance each child’s total development, during the crucial formative years. The centers’ main goal is to implement a meaningful and educational program of supervised care for all children.

Child Development Home Program (CDH)

CDH offers childcare in a Navy certified home by providers living in family housing at Great Lakes, Sheridan and Glenview. These self employed providers operate their home independently in compliance with strict Navy policies, including frequent inspections and close monitoring by the CDH staff. Extensive background screening and orientation training must be completed prior to certification. Planned activities are developmentally appropriate for children in care. Various types of care are offered including full-day, hourly, part-time, nights and weekends. Dependents ages 6 weeks to 12 years of active duty military personnel and DoD employees are eligible for care.

Child and Youth Placement (CYP)

Child and Youth Placement is a service offered by the Naval Station Great Lakes, Child and Youth Program. CYP assists parents who are looking for childcare within the Great Lakes area. During the consultation, families will receive information on childcare options, childcare programs, and how to choose quality childcare and childcare subsidies.
CYP provides information, resources and support to enable families to make a well-informed childcare decision.

Two centers provide programs for military youth and families: Kid’s World, located in Glenview, and Great Lakes Youth Center, located in Forrestal Village. The centers offer before and after school programs, day camp, intramural sports leagues, instructional classes, youth day trips and themed special events. The YFA branch is also affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Restaurant
Buckley’s offers a scenic setting to enjoy a delicious lunch with its fabulous views of the golf course, seen through the “walls of windows” from the dining area! Buckley’s serves an assortment of tasty entrées including unique, specialty sandwiches to go along with a large selection of charbroiled items, like the 1/3 pound Angus burger. Buckley’s is not only a terrific lunch option, but also a great site for facilitating golf outings and catered functions. Additional seating is available on two patios during the season. Buckley’s is sure to exceed expectations on value and service!

Lounge
Before or after golf, drop in and meet new friends, or catch up with old friends at Buckley’s Lounge. In addition to flat screen televisions to watch those favorite sporting events, a full service beverage bar and scrumptious snack foods are also available in the lounge.

Eagle’s Nest Café

Located on the lower level of the Port O’ Call Conference and Banquet Center, the Eagle’s Nest Café offers an ideal luncheon spot on weekdays, with a scenic view of Lake Michigan. The menu features hot and cold sandwich platters, juicy burgers and daily specials.

Parcheezi’s Express Restaurant

Parcheezi’s Express, located in the Rynish Bowling Center, serves freshly made sandwiches and pizza, daily. Parcheezi’s also serves delicious calzones. Another customer favorite is the fresh garlic bread, brushed with hot butter. Submarine sandwiches are also on the menu, featuring Italian beef or meatball.

Pier 525
Club Nitro, Skyline Food Court, Video Game Room,

Pier 525 is the entertainment and dining hot spot for enlisted personnel E-1 through E-6. The Skyline Food Court is located inside Pier 525, featuring two restaurants: Rooster’s for fried chicken and Mozzarella’s for homemade thin crust pizza (free delivery for both). Deliveries may be made to staff, students and/or civilians right to the quarterdeck or their office space. Call 688-7898 to place an order. Also located inside Pier 525 is Club Nitro, featuring a 5,000-watt sound system with lighting and a video wall. Entertainment is offered nightly including a variety of music formats, hosted by a D.J. Plus, live bands, comedians, theme nights and more are featured throughout the year. The Pier’s Video Game Room has over 100 video games and 14 pool tables, along with six (42 inch) high definition plasma TVs. The 21 and Over Lounge offers a special place for guests to socialize and watch their favorite sporting event in high definition on the (51 inch) TV, or one of the (42 inch) high-definition plasma TVs. In addition, an outdoor patio—The Landing— provides a place to relax with a favorite meal and beverage, outdoors. The Landing is a designated smoking area.

Port O’ Call Banquet and
Conference Center

The Port O’ Call Banquet and Conference Center offers a panoramic view of Lake Michigan. It is the perfect place for any community, civic, athletic or social banquet for groups of 15 to 250. The banquet menu features hot and cold hors d’oeuvres and meal selections for sit-down dinners, buffets and receptions. There are several value-priced packages for wedding receptions. Additionally, for meetings/seminars, the Port O’ Call can accommodate guests with AV requirements, along with any type of food requests. The Port O’ Call is open to the general public.

Pub 140

Pub 140, a staff lounge (open to all staff members), is located on the upper level of the Port O’ Call, overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan. Customers may enjoy beverage specials, snack food and a limited dinner menu; plus, grill-your-own burgers and steaks (spring and summer). For entertainment, a large screen TV, a jukebox, pinball machines and an outdoor patio to enjoy in the warm weather months are all a part of Pub 140.

Zapper’s

Zapper’s (NHCS) is located on the second floor of Building 130-H, providing direct access for Naval Hospital Corps School students to MWR food and beverage items, as well as an outlet to purchase tickets and pick up MWR information. HCS is only one of five Zapper’s locations, which are located throughout Naval Station Great Lakes in Buildings 2A, 236, 616, 621 and 1326 at RTC. The Zapper’s concept was created to cater to customers with busy schedules. Each facility offers a similar variety of foods, along with cold drinks and coffee beverages including cappuccino.

11th Frame Lounge

The 11th Frame Lounge, located in the Rynish Bowling Center, is a full-service bar, offering a variety of domestic and import bottle beer choices, draft beer and cocktails. In addition, pool tables, video games, a jukebox and three flat panel LCD televisions are located in the lounge.
