NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE KINGS BAY, GEORGIA

Welcome to Kings Bay — the East Coast home to Trident submarines. Whether you are inbound or contemplating a transfer here, you will discover, as have many before you, that our award-winning base is one of the Navy’s premier duty stations. It is strategically and conveniently located in an idyllic setting near Interstate 95, alongside the Intracoastal Waterway of southeast Georgia and only 30 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport.

Nearby, you will find a variety of places to live, shop, recreate, learn, worship, explore and play. Friendly people, superb amenities and more are just a few of the reasons why people chose to serve here, many for follow-on tours, or to retire here. The cost of living is reasonable compared with many duty stations, which adds to the attractiveness of the area.

Whether you prefer living in the country, a small-town environment or the faster lanes of metropolitan and city life, it is all near Kings Bay. Housing choices run the gamut, including affordable, quality houses and apartments to modest homes on acreage to luxurious residences in gated country clubs. Temporary quarters, family housing and barracks are also available on base. You will find top-notch schools, child care facilities and libraries, all supported by dedicated teachers and staffs.

Activities and programs abound for youth, teens and adults. On base, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) offers a variety of programs and services for single or unaccompanied Sailors, Marines and families, including computers, games, trips, a golf course, bowling, child care, dining, special functions and much more. You can shop at a modern, well-stocked commissary and the Navy Exchange.

Off base, you can visit historic sites; local, state, regional and national parks and preserves; tourist attractions; and points of interest all along the Georgia and Florida coast or inland. You can explore shops, restaurants and points of interest in St. Marys — the gateway to Cumberland Island — and Kingsland. In less than an hour, you can reach beaches, malls and a multitude of services and amenities at Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach, Brunswick and St. Simons Island. Area residents and visitors boast about the fresh and saltwater fishing, and you can fish on base, too.

As you travel, keep safety foremost in your mind. Plan ample time for your trip, stay alert — never jeopardize the safety of you or your family — and carry important papers and numbers such as orders, personnel and medical records, TRICARE ID cards and phone numbers with you. Finally, remember to regularly inform your sponsor and command about your travel plans, especially if you encounter emergencies along the way or cannot arrive safely or as scheduled.

We look forward to your safe arrival and to welcoming you aboard Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. You will enjoy living here, being part of our family and working with our professional, award-winning team.
