Leaders to address Soldier, Family housing concerns

Story by Kevin Larson on 02/21/2019

As part of an ongoing Army-wide effort to address concerns with Soldier and Family housing, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield’s leadership will hold community town halls Feb. 27.

These town halls will present information and gain feedback from participants at Hunter Army Airfield’s chapel, 1-2 p.m., and Fort Stewart’s main post chapel, 6-7 p.m.

“Our enduring obligation as Army leaders is to take care of our Soldiers and Army Families,” said Maj. Gen. Lee Quintas, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield. “Their health and welfare is of utmost importance to our Army’s readiness. This assessment and follow-on actions are top priorities for us.”

The town halls are an internal forum for installation leaders to connect with Soldiers, Army Families and other residents of Stewart-Hunter to ensure we are meeting our obligations to provide safe, quality family housing.

“Our leaders are monitoring the conditions of Army-owned and privatized housing for health, safety and environmental concerns,” Quintas said. “I expect we will execute our assessments in our housing areas in a decentralized manner down to the company commander and first sergeant with appropriate notice and consent of our Families.”

Senior members of Balfour Beatty will join Quintas and Col. Jason Wolter, Fort Stewart garrison commander to listen and address residents of Stewart-Hunter.

Installation leaders want to ensure residents understand their rights as tenants in privatized housing; how to report concerns and receive prompt action; and how to follow up on any complaint they feel is unresolved.

Residents unable to join in person can participate at the Facebook town hall threads at the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield pages, https://www.facebook.com/events/760694737637136/ and https://www.facebook.com/events/568350643682035/.
