Let your creative energies flow through a variety of outlets, including pottery, stained glass, picture framing, engraving and awards, T-shirts and mugs, and more. Classes help improve your skills in framing, stained glass, pottery, cake decorating and more; do-it-yourselfers are welcome during any hours when classes are not in session. Show off your finished work in the gallery showcase and participate in craft sales in July and November/December. For your convenience, the center can also make both plastic and dress military nametags, engrave awards and create unique shadowboxes for your personal mementos.

Get under your hood and get it done yourself in this state-of-the-art auto facility with 10 fully equipped indoor work stalls stocked with tools, three indoor bodywork stalls, a paint booth, welding area and more. A staff of ASE certified mechanics is available to assist or to handle your auto repair needs completely at economical prices. Services range from walk-in oil changes to alignments and full transmission flushes. The center also offers hazardous waste product oil drop-off and recycling for hobby shop patrons and base housing residents only. Check with the center for acceptance times. How-to workshops help novices and experts alike improve their skills. After your car is running smoothly, make it shine at the 45th FSS G5 LaserWash touch-free car wash next door to the AAFES gas station.

Managed through the Outdoor Recreation center, FAMCAMP lets you get away from it all right in the base’s backyard. With its location right on the Banana River, FAMCAMP is a prime location for inshore fishing, kayaking and nature viewing, including dolphins and manatees. Take a quiet bicycle ride or walk along the river, or simply enjoy a magnificent Florida sunrise or sunset. The campground, available to active duty, reservists and retired military year-round, features 46 sites with water/electric/sewer, 34 sites with water/electric, 47 overflow spots and 10 primitive sites. Only active-duty personnel may make reservations; all others are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis as space allows for periods of up to 30 days. See the camp office for rules about pets, quiet hours and safety requirements while operating recreational vehicles. The Outdoor Recreation staff hosts special events in the campground during the peak winter months of November through March. Pick up an events calendar in the campground office.

Take the work out of your workouts with the fun fitness options at this facility, including a full-size gymnasium, outdoor basketball court, indoor racquetball courts, a heated outdoor lap pool, group fitness area, weight rooms, locker rooms and more. The main cardio area has more than 15 types of equipment to help you or your family to reach fitness goals. Group classes are taught by qualified instructors and include boot camp, low-impact, spinning, step, water aerobics, Pilates, yoga and more, each with different levels of intensity and designed to increase your flexibility and endurance. Personal training and massage therapy services are available. In addition, several outdoor jogging paths begin near the center. Check center schedules for a monthly 5K run and other fitness events.

Saving money through the ITT office makes it easier to enjoy more of the entertainment Florida has to offer. Buy discounted tickets to popular attractions, including Walt Disney parks, SeaWorld and Busch Gardens, Universal Studios, the Kennedy Space Center, the Titanic Experience, the Florida Aquarium, plus water parks, adventure parks and dinner shows. The leisure travel office also helps plan and organize area excursions. Check with the office for suggestions and schedules.

MANATEE COVE GOLF CENTER

Enjoy a serene game of skill on Manatee Cove, 18 holes of well-engineered challenges throughout 260 acres of beautifully manicured land. The par 72 course lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River and is shared by an assortment of wildlife, including birds, alligators and even the endangered manatee. The facility features a café, full catering services and a PGA Professional on staff for golf lessons at every level. Civilian customers of the course who are in possession of a base badge may not escort or sponsor additional personnel on base. All civilians desiring to play golf at Manatee Cove must be cleared by applying for civilian base access.

Make the marina your favorite place to push off or just to come in and catch up on sea stories. With so many social opportunities, you’re bound to net good times and good friends. You don’t even need to own a boat to sail into the clubhouse, located on the Banana River. Membership dues are just $10 a month for regular members; $5 for widows and enlisted E4 and below. Additional fees apply for dockage. Members enjoy a full range of benefits including access to the Tiki Bar, free play on pool tables and more, Friday Night socials with pizza and other snacks, holiday parties, quarterly appreciation days, use of boat ramps, laundry and shower facilities and rental of the nearby Picnic Point Pavilion. The ship’s store features a unique line of Manatee Cove clothing, perfect for casual wear or as a gift.

There’s no shortage of options when you’re longing for some personal free time, and Outdoor Recreation is your one-stop location for programs and gear perfectly suited to any activity. Organized excursions include canoeing, horseback riding, camping and more, and the program offers special instructional classes including fishing, SCUBA diving, sailing, boat safety and stand up paddling. Don’t let a lack of equipment keep you indoors. Outdoor Recreation rents nearly every piece of gear you could want — or need at the just the right time. For fun on the water, the center rents a deck boat, fishing boat, trailers, ocean kayaks and canoes.

Fishing gear includes rods, reels and bait. Water sports gear includes SCUBA equipment (certification required) and surfboards, boogie boards, water skis and life jackets. Camping equipment includes everything from campers and a complete package of gear down to single lanterns, cots, chairs, binoculars, sleeping bags, mess kits and more. Party supply rentals are available, such as super cookers, tables, canopies, coolers, chair, dunk tanks, bubble machines, inflatable jumps and more. Other gear for rent includes bicycles, helmets, softball sets, horseshoe games, volleyball nets, tug-of-war ropes and more.

Splash the day away at the Patrick family pool, a great place for diving in and cooling off. The facility features a diving board, water slide, baby pool and shaded areas to escape the summer sun. Check with the facility to reserve it for a pool party.

Any time is a great time for a picnic, and there’s nearly no limit to the number of friends you can gather around the tablecloth at the base’s three large picnic areas. The areas are available at no charge for authorized ID card holders but must be reserved in person during Outdoor Recreation business hours.

The North Beach site, which accommodates 72 people, features a covered pavilion, restrooms, a shower, volleyball pit and horseshoes game. The Chevron site, with room for 120 people, features two covered pavilions, restrooms, showers, a volleyball pit, horseshoes, playground and fishing pier. The Dockside site allows seating for 48 people at 12 patio tables and chairs and features and restrooms. Reservations for all areas are accepted up to 90 days in advance of your event.

RECREATIONAL LODGING ON

Take a mini-vacation with a choice of three private, furnished, beachside houses that are like a home away from home. Each house sleeps 10 people with a variety of queen and twin beds. The houses, all with direct beach access, come with high-speed Internet, plus amenities such as TVs, basic cable, dinnerware, dishwashers, stove and ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, central air and charcoal grills. Smoking is not allowed in the houses, and pets are not allowed on the property.

Let the good times roll at this bowling alley that has amenities to spare. With 20 lanes and computerized scoring all you have to do it line up and release. Sign up for special leagues nearly every night of the week and enjoy plenty of daily open bowling as well. When hunger strikes, hit the 10 Pin Café and Snack Bar for burgers, dogs, sides and more to share and a variety of beverages to wash them down. A full-service pro shop sells the latest equipment and provides custom fitting and drilling of bowling balls. Saturday nights feature RockIt Glow Bowling with lights and music. Pick up a frequent bowler card and earn free games just for coming in. Kids will have a ball at birthday parties at the lanes, which can be booked for Saturdays from 1 to 9 p.m. Prices for all rentals and games vary according to times; call or visit the center for prices and specials.
