Faith Interest

For many families, a common concern is finding a worship community that meets their spiritual and religious needs once they arrive at a new duty station. Many families feel unsure about where or how to find another place of worship. You might have created close friendships with members of your previous worship community and leaving may create feelings of anxiety and a sense of loss.

It is very important to find a new community of faith as soon as possible following a move. Just as your former faith family was a source of support and encouragement to you at your previous assignment, keep in mind that a new faith family can be a great source of comfort and help as you adjust to your new environment.

There are three chapels on base that offer a variety of religious support, including worship services, counseling, and programs for youth and adults. The main chapel is located at the corner of Twin Peaks and Hackett streets next to Travisville Park and the Youth Center. First Street Chapel is located on First Street just north of the base theater. David Grant Medical Center also has a chapel on the first floor just inside the North entrance. For more information on services and programs call Twin Peaks Chapel at (707) 424-3217 or stop by and say “hi” and we will provide you with an up-to-date worship schedule.

Confidential Counseling/Other Services
Chaplains offer confidential counseling for relational, spiritual, work-related and other personal issues or concerns. Short-term individual and relationship counseling is available for those experiencing challenges at work, separation/deployment issues, parenting, marriage issues or others family concerns. Pre-marital counseling helps couples get off to a good start, strengthen their relationship, and understand the challenges and blessings of marriage. If being married by a chaplain, couples would meet to discuss communication, conflict resolution and other ways of improving and enriching their relationship. The Chapel also offers marriage retreats several times a year at a very low cost to couples.

Weddings are by appointment at base chapels at may be performed by off-base clergy as well as chaplains. To get married in a Travis AFB Chapel, the bride or groom must have a valid military ID card. In order to obtain a more detailed explanation of eligibility, scheduling, counseling and clergy requirements, please contact the staff at Twin Peaks Chapel at (707) 424-3217. Each chaplain has requirements for officiating weddings based on his/her faith background.

Our Protestant and Catholic faith groups offer a variety of vibrant programs and studies for adults, youth and children on the weekends and during the week. We also have local contacts and lay religious leaders identified for a variety of other faith groups. Please contact the chapel to obtain the appropriate contact information.

The Peak Airmen Ministry Center
The chapel also sponsors an outreach ministry for dorm residents focused on addressing their spiritual, moral and morale concerns. The Chapel offers periodical event trips for E-4 and below, and manages the Peak, a newly renovated cyber café and lounge that is open Monday through Saturday, 6 to 10 p.m. The Peak offers free coffee, computer use, food, games and much more in Building 1348 of the dorm complex next to the pit and across from the post office.

Finding a Place of Worship
If you prefer to worship off base and are fortunate enough to have friends or family living in the area, ask them where they attend worship or if they know of any places of worship in the area that meet your needs. Also consider exploring the local telephone book, checking out the advertisements in the base newspaper or looking online for a comprehensive listing of worship communities by denomination. You might want to contact your previous place of worship or denominational leadership to see if they have any information on services in the area.

Please know that regardless of your faith background, or whether you decide to worship at the Chapel or off base, we are here to serve you and your religious needs in whatever way we can.
