Travis Air Force Base
Centered in Northern California in Solano County, Travis Air Force Base is located midway between Sacramento, the state capital, and San Francisco. Neighboring cities include Dixon, which is 18 miles north of the base; Vacaville, 8 miles north of base; Fairfield and Suisun City, 8 miles east of base; and Vallejo, 25 miles southeast of base.
Travis is within easy driving distance of California wine country in the Napa and Sonoma valleys, as well as the popular tourist destinations Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park and Monterey.
Travis is home to the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the Air Force Reserve’s 349th Air Mobility Wing, the 621st Contingency Response Wing and more than 50 partner organizations. Travis’ primary mission is to provide rapid, responsive, reliable airlift of forces to any point on Earth in support of national objectives and to fulfill the global logistics needs of the Department of Defense in sustaining its worldwide activities.
Approximately 40,000 military members, civilian personnel and their families live and work on and around Travis Air Force Base. The base’s workforce includes 6,641 active-duty members, 2,853 Air Force reservists, 1,849 civil-service civilians and 1,169 civilians in non-appropriated fund positions, contracts and private businesses.
