Athletic Gear Issue

Athletic Gear Issue is inside the Recreation Office at the ITT counter. It provides checkout services for athletic equipment and supplies. Also, MWR equipment such as surfboards, boogie boards, snorkels, fins, tarps, coolers and tables and chairs are available for rent.

Club 14

Club 14 is adjacent to the main gate and across from the swimming pool. It is known for the best lunch specials and coldest beer on Sand Island. The club offers lunch and fast-food dinner service Monday through Friday. Facilities include a dining room, bar and lounge, game room, barbecue grill on the outdoor patio and catering operation. Complimentary pupus are offered during “Monday Night Football.” A laser disc sing-along karaoke player is available as well as games, a pingpong table, amusement machines and pool tables. The large dining room is a great site for large meetings, Coast Guard and military training programs, and parties and special functions. For more information, call 808-842-2961

Gymnasium

The gym complex consists of an enclosed combination basketball and volleyball court, fitness and weight room, racquetball court, cardiovascular and fitness and aerobics room upstairs, and men’s and women’s locker rooms. Signing up on the white board in the gym can reserve the racquetball court.

Outdoor Athletic Facilities

Located adjacent to Club 14 are a lighted softball field, two lighted tennis courts, one basketball court, two horseshoe pits and a sand volleyball court. All outdoor courts, with the exception of the softball field, are reserved on a first-come, first-use basis. When there are no leagues or tournaments, the softball field can be reserved by calling the Recreation Office at 808-842-2952.

Swimming Pool

The Sand Island Swimming Pool is between the Main MWR Office/Gym and Club 14. It is not open to dependents. Active-duty personnel may use this pool for physical fitness training. The pool is not staffed with a lifeguard, and, for your safety, the buddy system is strictly enforced — NO swimming alone. The pool entrance is kept locked at all times, and keys to the facility must be signed in and out at the Recreation Office.

Wailupe Community Center

Wailupe Community Center is in the Wailupe Senior Officer Coast Guard housing area. It consists of the MWR Community Center, swimming pool, tennis courts and barbecue area. Annual passes for the swimming pool and tennis court for residents and other eligible patrons can be purchased at the MWR office on Sand Island.
