SPONSORSHIP

Contact your sponsor and advise them of your estimated arrival time and flight information if applicable prior to your arrival at JBLM.

Sponsorship is vital to the relocation process. Don’t PCS without talking to your sponsor before departing for JBLM. Your sponsor will answer any questions you have about the base and the local area, make lodging/dorm arrangements and meet you upon arrival. Your sponsor will be there to help you and your family until you are settled into your new community.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Cellphone use by the driver of a moving motor vehicle is prohibited on all Department of Defense installations, unless the cellphone is used with a hands-free device.

From the South (Olympia and Portland)

To get to McChord Field and the McChord main gate, take Interstate 5 north toward Seattle. Take Exit 125 for Bridgeport Way/McChord. Turn right onto Bridgeport Way and continue
1 mile. The visitor’s center will be on the island to your left as you approach the gate.

To get to Lewis Main and the Liberty Gate, take Interstate 5 north toward Seattle. Take Exit 120 for JBLM Lewis Main/Lewis North and follow signs for Lewis Main. The visitor’s center will be to your right as you approach the gate.

From the North (Seattle and SeaTac Airport)

To get to McChord Field and the McChord main gate, take Interstate 5 south toward Portland, Oregon. Take Exit 125 for Bridgeport Way/McChord. Turn left onto Bridgeport Way and continue 1 mile. The visitor’s center will be on the island to your left as you approach the gate.

To get to Lewis Main and the Liberty Gate, take Interstate 5 south toward Portland. Take Exit 120 for JBLM Lewis Main/Lewis North and follow signs for Lewis Main. The visitor’s center will be to your right as you approach the gate.

Air Force members who arrive at McChord Field between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday should report to the Customer Service Mall, Military Personnel Section to schedule in-processing appointments. If you arrive during nonduty hours or need assistance, contact the Evergreen Inn at 253-982-5613. There is no base operator to assist in contacting your unit, but there is an automated phone locator available 24/7 at 253-982-1110.

Be sure to wear your duty uniform when in-processing or doing any other official visits at McChord Field agencies. All uniform combinations are authorized for wear throughout the year. You should remove all patches from other commands from your FSUs before wearing them on McChord. Base in-processing is at 7:30 a.m. Monday and Thursday with the finance section on the first floor of Building 100. All members are required to report directly to the finance section to process travel vouchers and receive a briefing. Upon completion of the finance briefing, members will be directed to the Customer Support Office for the remaining briefings as well as completion of the IDA worksheet to be gained in the personnel system. The Customer Support Office will schedule in-processing individuals to attend the mandatory joint Newcomers’ Orientation. Members must have their common access card PIN reset before briefing and be able to log into the McChord computer network.

All incoming soldiers must report to the USAG reception desk in Building 2021. The reception desk is open 24/7 (except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and July 4). You can reach the reception desk at 253-967-7004. For in-processing, you should show up on your assigned day in the Army combat uniform with all required paperwork, a notepad and a pen. The In-processing Personnel Section is in Waller Hall, Building 2140, Room 201. The personnel section may be reached at 253-967-9494. The finance section may be reached at 253-967-4453.

Newcomers Orientation Event

Armed Forces Community Service has a Newcomers’ Orientation for active-duty Air Force members and soldiers (all ranks) monthly. The orientation is open to all service members, DOD civilians and adult family members. Spouses are strongly encouraged to attend. The orientation is mandatory for all ranks of military members within 30 days of arriving at JBLM.

The orientation is held at the American Lake Conference Center at Lewis North. Free on-site child care is available with registration at Child, Youth and School Services at 253-966-2977.
