Veterans in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties are served within Veterans Integrated Service Network 7 — the VA Southeast Network, with the nearest major medical center in Charleston, about 15 miles away from Joint Base Charleston. VISN 7 serves veterans in 244 counties in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina with eight medical centers and more than 55 community-based outpatient clinics. The closest community outpatient clinics are in North Charleston and Goose Creek.

The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center consists of one primary, secondary and tertiary care facility in Charleston, serving more than 67,000 veterans in 21 counties and encompassing more than 15,000 square miles. The center offers primary, tertiary and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, women’s health and dentistry. The Charleston VAMC is a 152-bed teaching hospital with 20 operating nursing home care beds and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of patient care and services to veterans along the South Carolina and Georgia coasts.
