The wild desert landscape and mountains invite hiking, biking, rock climbing, camping, wildflower viewing and day excursions, but there are plenty of organized activities in the area as well.

Joshua Tree National Park

The nine campgrounds in the park are open year-round, and all have tables and fire grates, though those who want a campfire must bring their own fuel because all vegetation in the park is protected. Reservations are required for three of the sites —  Black Rock, Indian Cove and all group sites — and can be made by calling (800) 365-2267. None of the campsites has showers, and there are no hookups for recreational vehicles. Water is available only at Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms, the Indian Cove Ranger Station, the West Entrance and Black Rock and Cottonwood Campgrounds.
