NAS Key West Housing: 4 On-Base Options (2021 Edition)

Introduction

You’ve received PCS orders to Naval Air Station Key West! Welcome to the tropical paradise located in the southernmost tip of Florida. Surrounded by historical sites, restaurant and bar options, and mangrove forests and pristine beaches, this base is truly a gem amongst the other military installations. Due to the limited and expensive housing market on the islands purchasing a home might not be a practical option for you and your family. So we’ve put together a guide of the available on-base housing options offered on NAS Key West.

Key West BAHKey West BAH

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is given out monthly to service members who live off base in the surrounding area. BAH isn’t the same for everyone. It’s calculated based on your individual rank and the zipcode where you live. The added assistance is meant to compensate for the amenities you’d be receiving while living on base in the communities or barracks, and is great for cutting your housing costs. It leaves personnel free to save for the future or use their paychecks for more important things.

You can follow this link to look up your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for your rank and zip code. This will help you create your budget and guide your home search.

NAS Key West Barracks

For unaccompanied E1-E4 personnel PCSing to Key West, you’ll likely end up in the barracks. There are around 120 service members spread out between two buildings on base: buildings 1350 and 1351. You’ll need to speak with the housing office to determine your eligibility for living on base. E5-E9 personnel can also live in the barracks as resident advisors. They perform certain leadership and other responsibilities in exchange for lodging. Geographic bachelors who are living on base without their families can also apply for the barracks, but are not guaranteed to be approved.
