Corpus Christi, Texas, is a culturally affluent area with beautiful beaches, excellent education and a strong economy. The locals are friendly with their military neighbors, so you should find yourself fitting in nicely to your new neighborhood.

Living off base is a popular choice for the NAS Corpus Christi personnel. One of the more preferable areas is on North Padre Island, also called The Island, by locals. There you will find plenty of rentals for both aviation students and instructors but also for families. You always have a beach nearby, and if you want to do a little boating, there’s plenty of places to launch. You’ll just have to get to more of the main areas of Corpus Christi for grocery shopping and schools.

Be prepared to hydrate and plan outdoor activities around the midday heat to avoid the worst of it. Winters, in contrast, are short, get cool and can be windy. But it rarely gets below 40 degrees. Summers tend to hang out in the lower 90s range. There is the potential for tropical storms and hurricanes, so be sure to get a severe weather radio and always be prepared for hurricane season.
