Escambia and Santa Rosa county residents may apply for certification; applicants are not required to be military affiliated. Those who live off-base must also obtain either a state license or state registration prior to becoming Navy certified.

CDH applicants and all family members must complete a rigorous background screening to include a CNACI clearance, fingerprinting and all local background checks. In addition, they are required to attend a 40-hour orientation training. This class is offered on a quarterly basis at no cost. Once the file is complete, approved and a state license or registration is provided, CDH applicants are required to obtain general liability insurance. All files are reviewed by a Quality Review Board who provides recommendations to the Commanding Officer prior to certification being authorized. Becoming a Certified Navy CDH Provider is a privilege authorized by the Commanding Officer.

Parents in the need of a CDH provider should visit, build a profile and review providers in the area who meet their child care needs criteria. Parents are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the potential provider, meet them and tour the home before making an informed decision of where to place their child.
