The Fitness Center now features the Fit Box, one of our most popular offerings. Located just behind the fitness center near the practice softball field, the Fit Box features a combat-style workout area and equipment stations. Hours are seasonal. Ask the fitness center front desk staff for times.
FITNESS CENTER &
GYMNASIUM (BUILDING 456)
The base fitness center is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with a full assortment of cardio equipment, free weights and weight equipment for a total body workout. The gymnasium has two side courts for basketball or volleyball within the full-length hardwood floor basketball court. The fitness center has an aerobics room, a racquetball court, a wallyball court and a family fitness parent area where the kids can play while mom or dad watch them during workouts. The fitness center is equipped with full showers and locker rooms, and the men’s and women’s locker rooms both have dry saunas. Scheduled aerobics classes, spin classes, combat fitness box and other similar classes are offered. The fitness center offers personal training and family fitness instruction and classes. Two running trails are available with distances ranging from a half mile to 5 miles. The fitness center also offers a year-round schedule of tournaments and leagues. All tenant commands are eligible to participate in the Captain’s Cup competition for athletic supremacy among military commands in the New Orleans area. LIBERTY PROGRAM OFFICE (BUILDING 261)
The Liberty Program is available to service personnel E-6 and below stationed at NAS JRB and all other commands throughout the metro area.
The Liberty Program is intended to develop and improve social skills and address the leisure needs of single enlisted service members. This program is for single active-duty enlisted personnel between age 18 and 25 who are away from home, usually for the first time. Aboard NAS JRB the Liberty Program is run as an outreach program, in which the liberty coordinator works directly with the commands and unaccompanied housing residents to provide quality programs at the barracks as well as off-base trips. LIBRARY (BUILDING 57)
The NAS JRB Library on Russell Avenue has a growing selection of books for children and adults, Playaway audio books, DVDs, magazines, internet-ready computers, free Wi-Fi and print, scan, copy and fax services.
The children’s reading room is a fun environment for children to develop a lifelong love of reading. The library offers proctoring as well as several web-based services such as www.tutor.com, OverDrive e-books, Gale research resources and Peterson’s standardized testing assistance. The library is a quiet place to study, research information or catch up on the news. The library values the diverse community and strives to provide an array of services to fit every need; there are many programs available to children and adults throughout the year. MAGNOLIA TERRACE COMMUNITY CENTER (BUILDING 40)
The Magnolia Terrace in Building 40 is a community center offering a variety of events such as movies, bingo and arts and crafts as well as great adult entertainment, such as illusionist shows, comedians and bands.

OUTDOOR GEAR RENTAL
Outdoor Gear Rental in Building 42 offers a wide selection of gear to meet the needs of outdoor events. The following is a sampling of what’s available for your next indoor or outdoor party: coolers, canopies, tables, chairs, barbecue grills, crawfish pots and turkey fryers. Outdoor rental also offers camping and fishing equipment: propane accessories, tents, sleeping bag pads, sleeping bags, boats, canoes, life vests and box trailers. For details, call 504-678-3142.

Site One Plaquedilla Park (next to Building 45 on Chambers Ave.) — This facility is 40 by 60 feet and accommodates 150 people under the shelter. It is equipped with ceiling fans, electrical outlets, lighting, picnic tables and a grill. Additionally an outdoor sink is available near the new restroom facilities.
Site Two (Next to the sports complex) — This covered pavilion accommodates 200 and has electricity, picnic tables, grills, fans and water. It has access to the sports complex playground, restrooms, tennis courts, softball field, track and football field.
PRACTICE SOFTBALL FIELD

The Specialty Shoppe, also known as the picture frame shop, has a large selection of frames, mats and glass. Professional custom framing is available for collectible or other valuable pieces and artwork. The staff can repair some frames and replace glass or mats, can build custom shadow boxes, has ready-made flag boxes for purchase and can print and stretch canvas paintings and needlepoint work. The shop also sells ready-made frames and mats, framing hardware and hooks for hanging pieces. Beveled mirrors may be ordered for purchase. Dry mounting, which flattens out wrinkles in art by pressing it to foam board, is also available. The experienced staff specializes in custom work, and no job is too big or too small. The frame shop also offers art classes and wreath-making classes throughout the year.
The shop can also create custom yard signs, 18 by 24 inches, and banners in several colors at 3 feet by 4 feet, 3 feet by 6 feet and 3 feet by 8 feet. It also has a vinyl banner machine that can cut simple vinyl stickers in only one color provided that the vector image is clear. The shop also can print 32-by-40-inch paper posters or black and white copies and some copies on poster paper if the image allows. SPORTS COMPLEX FIELD
The Sports Complex has two standard tennis courts, a multi-purpose field, two lighted softball fields, quarter-mile track, pavilion, playground and restrooms. To reserve the fields call the fitness center at 504-678-3230 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Traditionally, the pool is open Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day. The pool is 25 yards long and L-shaped, with a water slide, children’s water park and wading pool. Swimming lessons are available throughout the summer. Military lap swim is 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Recreational swim is available six days a week, normally opening at 10 a.m. The pool may be rented for special functions on Friday and Saturday after normal operating hours. Swim tests are conducted every open day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Swim instruction classes are conducted during the seasonally open period. Summer thunderstorms will affect hours.
