Marines with Marine Corps Recruiting Station Jersey will host the Cedar Creek High School football team for a leadership and physical fitness seminar on August 1 aboard Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, N.J.
The Marines conducted leadership seminars with more than 35 high school athletic teams throughout the state each year for the last three years. The purpose of the seminars is for the Marines to share their knowledge and experiences with the student-athletes. The fundamental principles the Marines discuss are leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, setting the example, and how to be successful.
This particular seminar is different, because the team will be traveling to the Marines for an all-day event. Beginning early in the morning on Aug. 1, the Marines and the student-athletes will begin a 4.8 mile hike with a weighted pack on their backs. Upon completing the hike, the athletes will then complete a circuit course challenge, which consists of various team building events. The next event will be a 1.4 mile hike back to the beginning area, which will be followed by a leadership discussion from the Marines.
The seminar will last approximately six hours, beginning at 9 a.m. and finishing at 3 p.m.
