XVIII Airborne Corps invites Soldiers to leadership development discussion

Command Sgt. Maj. Emilio Rivera, command sergeant major, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, Task Force Dragon, XVIII Airborne Corps, hosted a speaking event for the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Directorate at Pope Theater on Fort Bragg, North Carolina Aug. 02, 2019.
The key note speaker of the event was Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Simmons, director of the NCO Professional Development Directorate, Noncommissioned Officer Leadership Center of Excellence, and outlined the educational revisions to the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System.
The leadership development discussion was open to all enlisted service members. Over 125 Soldiers attended the event and ranks varied all the way from Privates to Command Sergeants Major.
“Today I provided an NCOPDS update brief to the NCO’s of the XVIII Airborne Corps,” said Simmons. “What this covered was all of the changes that have happened over the last two years and also going forward into the next 12 to 18 months. For the first time in 43 years we have completely redesigned everything in the NCOPDS. We changed over from SSD to the DLC’s and then redesigned the brick and mortar school houses as well.”
Simmons also stressed the importance of the event being open to all ranks and not reserved for NCO’s.
“The NCOPDS that we are designing now will not be my NCOPDS,” Simmons said. “My NCOPDS has gone the way of the dinosaur just as I am soon on my way out of the Army, as all Sergeants Major are. It’s our job to train the folks who are coming up to replace us. So it’s absolutely imperative that every soldier and young leader in the Army gets this information because this effects them as they move forward.”
