The Alaska District provides a full range of quality engineering, construction support and scientific and technical services in support of peacetime and contingency operations in Alaska, the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

The organization oversees the largest geographic area in the corps and is responsible for delivering multimillion-dollar projects throughout Alaska. It is headquartered on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson near Anchorage.

JBER’s Alaska Area Engineer Office manages all military, civil works and interagency construction throughout Alaska.

The Alaska District executes three major programs: military construction, water resources development, and environmental cleanup and restoration. It also has significant programs in contracting, operations and maintenance, and real estate. Further, the district regulates activities in waters and wetlands under the authority of the Clean Water Act and Rivers and Harbors Act.

These programs are highly visible in the military and local communities and are deep-seated in Alaska history. In partnership with the corps’ Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, the Alaska District applies its expertise in arctic engineering to provide vital solutions that are built to last.

The organization’s professionals assist and collaborate with military, federal, state, local and Alaska Native entities to study, plan, engineer, design and construct critical projects. In addition, it supports DOD Overseas Contingency Operations and the nation’s disaster response mission.

Safety is the core of the Alaska District’s operations. It conducts a comprehensive program for workforce safety and to assist construction crews in exceeding corps safety standards.

The organization is a multiyear winner of the Chief of Engineers Safety Award.
