Supporting the warfighter

Naval Base Ventura County directly supports operational forces by providing superior installation support for training, research, testing and maintenance for the warfighter and the equipment they use. We continue to improve facilities and services that provide for the life, safety, welfare and morale of military members, their families and the civilian employees who support them every day. We bring value to the warfighter by ensuring they are provided world-class service at every point of their homeport cycle and caring for their families while they are away.

Community Engagement

NBVC works has a strong partnership with the Ventura County community. We enjoy great community support and relations, bolstered by an active community outreach program that includes multiple monthly speaking engagements, tour opportunities and educational partnerships. Education outreach, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, is critical to ensuring the workforce of tomorrow is educated today.

Energy Conservation

The Secretary of the Navy has called for 50 percent renewable energy by 2020. NBVC intends to lead the Navy’s effort in achieving this goal. NBVC continues its record-setting run of achievements in energy and water conservation by earning Platinum-level recognition continuously since 2001. The installation has consistently surpassed the Navy’s goals for energy conservation and is now implementing several projects to install renewable energy sources, including photovoltaic and solar hot water and wind turbines at San Nicolas Island.

Endangered Species

Seven federally listed endangered species are found throughout NBVC. Point Mugu is home to over 500 harbor seals, and San Nicolas Island is home to more than 23,000 elephant seals, as well as large sea bird rookeries. San Nicolas Island hosts one of the largest breeding populations of elephant seals and sea lions in the region.
