Introduction

Welcome to West Point in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York. Located just about an hour north of New York City, this is an exciting place to live for the possibilities of the city while enjoying the picturesque and serene life in the rural Hudson Valley River area. When moving to a new duty station, if you’re not sure you want to buy a house in the local West Point area or the time simply isn’t right for you, on-post housing is a great option. This guide will help you figure out your options and get you started.

West Point BAH

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is provided for you based on your rank and location. BAH is given if housing on-post is not available and you are looking at living in the surrounding area. West Point Barracks

Students will obviously be housed in dormitory barracks, so if you’re looking for cadet housing information, visit the US Military Academy West Point page. For single or unaccompanied permanent personnel to the Garrison, Unaccompanied Personnel Housing is available.

Housing on-post is a public-private partnership with Balfour Beatty Communities. The Army manages your housing application and the waitlist. There are 16 housing neighborhoods on US Army Garrison West Point with various floor plans and amenities. Each community has common amenities such as:
  • On-site management and maintenance
  • Basketball and Tennis courts

  • Pet-friendly
  • Playgrounds
  • Resident activities and events
  • Soccer field

Note:

Even though some neighborhoods may include all ranks, only certain units within that neighborhood may be available to certain ranks. Though some neighborhoods are open to all ranks, certain floor plans may be restricted to those of higher rank.

1. Band

Ranks:

E7-E9 This neighborhood has spacious four bedroom historic homes with porches and ample green space. Within walking distance of the Middle School and Community Center.

2. Grey Ghost

Ranks:

E7-E9, O1-O5, military retirees, DOD civilians This neighborhood features three, four, and five bedroom townhomes. There are multiple playgrounds and access to the Community Center.

3. Lee

Ranks:

O4-O5 This neighborhood has three and four bedroom historic homes within walking distance of West Point Middle School, Lee Area Child Development Center, and West Point Fitness Center.

4. Lusk

Ranks:

O6 This neighborhood for senior officers has five bedroom homes with beautiful views of the Hudson River and Lusk Reservoir. There are fireplaces and garages, all within easy distance of Michie Stadium, Holder Center, and Foley Center.

5. New Brick

Ranks:

E1 – E9; O1 – O6; military retirees; DOD civilians; general public This neighborhood has three bedroom historic duplex-style homes with fenced in backyards.

6. North Apartments

Ranks:

All ranks, military retirees; DOD civilians; general public Centrally located, this apartment complex has two bedroom apartments with washer dryers, fully equipped kitchens and garages.

7. Old Brick

Ranks:

O1-O3, E1-E5 This neighborhood has four bedroom historic homes and access to multiple playgrounds as well as the Community Center.

8. Old English North

Ranks:

O6 This neighborhood has six bedroom historic homes featuring a porch, garage, fully equipped kitchen, and fireplace.

9. Old English South

Ranks:

O4-O6 This neighborhood features six-bedroom homes that include a fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, and a porch. There are stunning views of the Hudson River as well as basketball and tennis courts.

10. Professors Row

Ranks:

O6 This neighborhood for senior officers has spacious six and eight bedroom homes that are centrally located.

11. SNCO North

Ranks:

E7-E9 This neighborhood has four bedroom homes with a porch, fully equipped kitchen, and washer dryer connections. It is within easy walking distance of the Middle School and Fitness Center.

12. South Apartments

Ranks:

All ranks, military retirees; DOD civilians; general public This apartment complex has two bedroom apartments with washer dryers, fully equipped kitchens and garages. The neighborhood has basketball and tennis courts and beautiful views of the Hudson River.

13. Stony Lonesome I

Ranks:

E7–E9; O4–O5; W4-W5; military retirees; DOD civilians This neighborhood has three and four bedroom homes with two car garages, fully equipped kitchens, and washer/dryer connections. Within easy distance of the Commissary, Shoppette, and the Child Development Center.

14. Stony Lonesome II

Ranks:

All ranks; military retirees; DOD civilians This neighborhood has three and four bedroom homes with porches, garages, and fully equipped kitchens.. It is located close to the Commissary, Shoppette, and the Child Development Center.

15. Washington Road

Ranks:

O4-O5; E7-E9 Conveniently located near the Community Center and the West Point Fitness Center, this neighborhood has three and four bedroom homes with a porch, fully equipped kitchens, and washer/dryer connections.

15. Wilson Road

Ranks:

O6 This neighborhood features spacious five bedroom historic brick homes with a fireplace, porch, fully equipped kitchen, and stunning views of the Hudson River.

Conclusion

US Army Garrison West Point housing is a great option if you’re looking for a well maintained and safe place to live and don’t want the hassle of scouring the local community. The Hudson Valley is very expensive if you’re looking to buy so this offers a great option to save while stationed here.
