1. Base Events and Programs

JBLE offers the military community a number of special events and programs throughout the year. Events include holiday celebrations, contests, virtual events, and more. The Community Center at Fort Eustis is a great place to hang out. The center has pingpong, air hockey, foosball, and pool tables, as well as gaming systems, movies, and more. The center also hosts a number of special events. Visit the center’s website for more information on upcoming events.

Langley AFB’s Riverview Event Center hosts live musical performances, trivia nights, comedy shows, and other special events. The center also hosts instructional classes and lessons where you can learn photography, guitar, quilting, boxing, and other skills. The center is where you’ll find the base’s ITT and outdoor pool as well.

The Anderson Field House at Fort Eustis has strength, cardio, and weight training equipment. The field house features an indoor lap pool, a functional fitness area, a boxing area, a circuit training room, and much more. Outside the field house there is a running track, a basketball court, and horseshoe pits. Sports and fitness equipment is available for checkout. The Bethel Recreation Area and FamCamp are 4 miles south of JBLE. The park is located on historic Civil War battlegrounds and features a 2-mile lake. Facilities include a boat house, a boat launch ramp, fishing piers, pavilions, grills, playgrounds, 25 RV sites, primitive camping sites, and a bath house. Boats, canoes, and kayaks are available to rent.

The U.S. Army Transportation Museum tells the story of the Army’s Transportation Corps. Exhibits, models, and dioramas cover the history of U.S. Army transportation from the horse-drawn wagons of the Revolutionary War to the armored vehicles used today. The museum’s collection includes planes, helicopters, tugboats, landing craft, trucks, jeeps, hovercraft, and trains.

The 15-acre Air Power Park displays vintage aircraft and experimental space launch vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s. Many of these displays have connections to Langley AFB and the nearby NASA Langley Research Center. An indoor museum found at the center of the park has more than 325 models of aircraft, spacecraft, and nautical vessels. The park’s wooden walkway is a great place to take in views of Newmarket Creek, where you can see herons, egrets, blackbirds, crabs, and other local wildlife. The park also has a playground.

Virginia Air & Space Science Center‘s hands-on aviation exhibits explore 100 years of flight. Check out more than 30 historic aircraft, an interactive space exploration gallery, and a 3-D IMAX theater. The center also serves as the official visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center.

The Mariners’ Museum is one of the largest and most prestigious maritime museums in the world. The museum’s more than 35,000 artifacts include miniature ship models, scrimshaw, maritime paintings, decorative arts, carved figureheads, working steam engines, and more. The museum is located on a 550-acre park with a 160-acre lake, a 5-mile trail, and an iconic bridge that overlooks the James River.
