The Development of a Military Uniform

A lot of preparation goes into the development of a military uniform. The U.S. military tested uniforms, like the Army Combat Uniform, for tensile strength and flame resistance. Endurance and functionality tests are also important to make sure a uniform protects and functions properly on the battlefield. Military uniforms have evolved and changed heavily over the years. Below, we listed some awesome military uniforms you have to see from different militaries around the world.

1. U.S. Military Uniforms

U.S. Military Army uniforms can actually be traced back to the British Army in the 18th century. One cool military uniform is the early 20th century Army uniforms. The uniform, which had bright colors when Soldiers were in military dress uniforms and bronze/muted colors when they were on the field, showed different ranks for the troop’s branch and specialist insignia. WWI impacted these uniforms greatly. The WW2 military uniforms further evolved from this original design. Another honorable mention from the U.S. is the Navy military uniforms. In 1898, U.S. Navy military uniforms were developed for the “New Navy.” The Navy was changed heavily around this era. The uniforms themselves helped represent this. The uniform for captains was made from a light blue cloth with a gold sleeve lace pattern originally used by the Navy in 1869. The sleeve lace was developed from a light blue lace. The cap visor has golden lace, which was introduced in 1897.

2. French Military Uniforms

The 1757 French military uniforms had an interesting design. The French Army uniforms were typically white. The French infantry uniform was plain white. The Bourgogne Regiment wore regimental coats that were much like those of the infantry. These cost less than the dyed uniforms from different regiments that were distinguished by different colors. The all-white color scheme had a stark and catching look.

3. Russian Military Uniforms

Russian Military Uniforms have evolved and changed heavily over time. They vary based on rank, season, and gender. One notable uniform is the Russian Navy’s uniform. The Russian Navy has different dress uniforms for each season. The uniforms are a navy blue, white, or black military uniform. They wear the traditional telnyashka underneath their uniform (a white and blue horizontal striped sleeveless undershirt.

4. German Military Uniforms

The imperial German military uniform (1842-1918) has to be another mention on this list. During this time, the Waffenrock, which was a Soldier’s tunic, was worn by most foot units. The color and look always varied by regiment.

5. Ukrainian Military Uniform

The Ukrainian military uniform was updated in 2016. Their new uniforms are based on British military styles. They have a modern pixelated camouflage color, and the cap in the Ukrainian military uniform has Ukrainian Cossack insignia grasping a cross. It’s a pretty awesome look.

6. British Military Uniforms

We can’t write a list about cool military fashion without mentioning the British military foot guards. They have classic and well-known fashion. The bright red overcoat and tall, fluffy, dark hat are all well known. They can also be characterized by the gold chin strap that keeps the hat on. A military uniform represents a lot. They help distinguish different branches and countries. While the military uniform has changed a lot over time for every country’s military, it’s always interesting to look back on where they started and how the uniforms reflect their armed forces and people.
