THE WOLF-X LOOKS TO LEAD THE ARMY’S PACK OF RCVS
Some of the biggest names in the defense industry have created the next robotic combat vehicle (RCV) looking to lead the pack. The WOLF-X from HDT Global has multiple functions and provides Soldiers with a useful, tough, stealthy vehicle capable of traversing a multitude of terrains with ease.
HDT Global’s WOLF-X Delivers Cutting-Edge Technology to the Army
The WOLF-X from HDT Global is a next-generation robotic combat vehicle built for modern battlefield superiority.
Its 8x8 wheeled chassis with HDT’s Terrain Flex suspension allows over a foot of independent wheel travel, offering unmatched mobility and toughness in harsh conditions.
Equipped with a 5th-generation Stealth Hybrid diesel-electric engine and an advanced lithium-iron-phosphate battery, the WOLF-X operates silently while delivering top-tier performance across various environments.
Soldiers benefit from the vehicle’s long-range capabilities, high survivability, and plug-and-play computing to ensure mission success.
Advanced Features for Modern Battles
The WOLF-X is a collaboration by HDT Global, BAE Systems, and McQ Inc., combining powerful weaponry like guided missiles and chain guns with advanced surveillance and communication sensors.
With airless tires and superior suspension, the WOLF-X can traverse rugged terrain without fear of flats or mechanical failures, building on the proven HDT Hunter WOLF platform, used as a part of the Army's S-MET program for military and civilian missions, such as cargo transport and mine clearing.
Designed for offensive missions, the WOLF-X excels in scouting, combat support, and direct enemy engagement, featuring a modular design that supports future upgrades.
HDT Global positions the WOLF-X as a combat-ready solution built to meet and surpass evolving military demands.
The robotic combat vehicle is currently a part of the U.S. Army's RCV program and is in Phase I testing, competing against other companies for the chance to secure the defense contract.
Meet the WOLF-X’s Competition
While the WOLF-X is proving to be an impressive design, it’s up against several stiff competitors vying for a very coveted defense contract.
General Dynamics Land Systems submitted the TRX, a 10-ton tracked vehicle with modular weapon systems and mission-specific attachments.
Oshkosh Defense, known for military vehicles like the MTVR, HEMTT, and JLTV, has kept details of its RCV prototype under wraps but is actively working on a potential option for the Army.
Soldiers may also have the offering from Textron Systems at their disposal, featuring a battlefield-ready version of its Ripsaw tank, famous from the Fast and Furious franchise.
The Army's RCV search is focusing on finding an advanced, autonomous combat vehicle capable of enhancing battlefield operations.
While many questions remain, the WOLF-X and its competitors are shaping the future of military robotic combat technology, delivering battle-ready vehicles unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Having robotic vehicles is important but less of an idea of simply replacing Soldiers and more in the focus of assisting them.
It’s an important mix the Army is paying attention to, including drones, manpower, and high-tech vehicles deployed in a variety of environments.
Upcoming RCVs can be deployed for transport and also scouting missions due to their durability, strength, and ability to maneuver quietly among diverse terrains.
The WOLF-X and its competitors will know soon enough which team has earned the contract as the Army expects to select a winner by spring 2025.
