From north and west take Interstate 64 east and Exit 268 (Phoebus/Fort Monroe). From south and east take Interstate 64 west and Exit 268 (Phoebus/Fort Monroe). Turn on to Mallory Street toward Buckroe Beach. At Mellon Street turn right, continue on Mellon Street, once you cross the bridge you will arrive at the Fort Monroe Gate. Soldiers assigned and attached to Fort Monroe sign in and in-process through the installation Personnel Administration Center located in Building 82, third floor, Room 350 on Ingalls Road. Morning duty hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon. Afternoon duty hours are 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on Wednesdays (closed for training). After hours, soldiers sign in with the Military Police located in Building 87 at 150 Ingalls Road and then report to the installation Personnel Administration Center the next duty day. Fort Monroe Lodging offers 14 comfortable, well-appointed units for guests traveling on TDY orders, guests traveling on PCS orders, official visitors and unofficial visitors. Confirmed reservations are offered through telephonic contact, (757) 788-2128, and e-mail (monr.lodging@us.army.mil). TDY travelers are directed to the Army Central Reservation System (ACRS), (800) 462-7691, when space is not available on post. Army Lodging has a contract under the Lodging Success Program (LSP) for TDY travelers to the Hampton Roads area. When space is not available on post, ACRS makes a reservation at a contract hotel. A list of local hotels is available in the Lodging Office for PCS travelers and unofficial visitors.When space is not available on post for PCS personnel, a statement of non-availability is provided. The Lodging Office, located in Armistead Hall, Building 80, at the corner of Ingalls and Patch Roads, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests with reservations who arrive after duty hours will find their welcome packets waiting for them at the Military Police Desk Sergeant Window, Building 87, next to Fort Monroe's front gate.

Government Owned

- Government quarters are limited in number (95 officer and 72 enlisted) and are available to all military ranks. Normally there is a waiting list for all ranks except general officers. Applications for government quarters are maintained by grade and bedroom requirements. Applications are taken in person at the Housing Office located in Building 28 (Directorate of Public Works- DPW Building). Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telephone numbers are (757) 788-4150/2127. DSN prefix is 680. The mailing address is: DPW Housing Division, 318 Cornog Lane, Building 28, Fort Monroe, VA 23651-1110. Government owned family quarters, both officer and NCO, are interspersed throughout the southern, older part of the post. Most military occupants can walk to their place of duty. The posts medical and dental facilities, the marina and the education center are within walking distance of most family quarters. There are a few units that are close to industrial facilities, but for the most part, family quarters are in tree-lined areas, both inside and outside the moat.

Monroe Apartments

- An option for short-term housing. Residents live in privatized buildings and pay rent to the contractor. For those needing more information, call the DPW Housing Office at (757) 788-2129.

Troop Housing

- One permanent building, Building 87, provides unaccompanied enlisted personnel housing. This building is also historical and was recently renovated.

Temporary Lodging

- There are some transient units on post available for TDY personnel and PCS families. Reservations may be made by calling the Billeting Office at (757) 788-2128. The Billeting Office is located in Building 80 (Armistead Hall).

Off Post Home Finding and Housing Referral Services

- The Housing Office provides information on the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN). AHRN is the only total housing solution approved and funded by the DoD for military members. You will receive expert, unbiased advice from your Real Estate Counselor to help you make well informed real estate decisions. This is a Web based tool to manage all aspects of your home sale or purchase. AHRN serve as your advocate to find and manage great real estate agents and secure other high-quality real estate services. All incoming military personnel who are assigned to Fort Monroe, Va. and plan to live in the Hampton Roads area must process through the Fort Monroe Housing Section. Married permanent party soldiers and single senior NCOs may live off post and draw basic allowance for quarters arranged with the Defense Finance and Accounting Division. The Legal Assistance Office is available to review leases and/or any rental clauses. Vehicle registration is mandatory for personnel assigned to, employed at or living on Fort Monroe. Vehicle Registration is located at Building 87, Ingalls Road, on the first floor of the Provost Marshal Office. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.You will need to present a valid military ID card, driver's license, current vehicle registration certificate, proof of insurance and proof of inspection if your vehicle is registered in a state that requires inspection. Persons who are not eligible for Department of Defense decals, or who need access to the installation for a short period of time, may be issued a one to 30 day pass in lieu of a decal. You will need to bring the same documents as stated above unless the vehicle is a rental, in which case the rental agreement will be sufficient.
