Fort Jackson Elementary Schools

There are two Fort Jackson elementary schools on post. The Department of Defense Education Activity schools enroll students in pre-k through sixth grade.

Fort Jackson Child Care and Youth Services

Fort Jackson Childcare and Youth Services

Fort Jackson daycare centers are provided by Child and Youth Services to help reduce the conflict between parenting responsibilities and mission requirements as well as keep kids engaged in constructive activities to enhance their development.

School-age services provide programs for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. School-age services programs are certified by the DOD, accredited by the Council on Accreditation and affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H.

The Scales Avenue, Lee Road and Imboden Street Child Development Centers as well as the Imboden Street School Age Center are closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Check the Fort Jackson Childcare webpage for updates.

Hood Street Child Development Center

The Hood Street Child Development Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and certified to operate by the Department of Defense. It provides up to 24 hours a week of care for children 6 weeks to 5 years old up to 24 hours of care per week with reservations. Walk-ins are accepted if space and staff are available. Transportation is available to and from on-post schools for midday and end-of-day times but not for morning drop-off.

Family Child Care homes offer care for children 4 weeks to 12 years old by FCC providers on post in government quarters or off post in residential areas. FCC providers, their spouses and children older than 12 must pass required background checks and participate in a family interview to be certified operate by the garrison commander. FCC homes are monitored and inspected regularly. This program offers self-employment for military spouses, enabling them to add to the family’s income while staying at home with their children.

The Hood Street School Age Center provides care to children in grades K-5. On school days, the before-school program and the afternoon program are available for children attending select Richland School District Two schools in grades K through fifth. Transportation services are available for select Richland District Two schools.
After-school activities include a computer lab, homework center, arts and crafts, game room, USDA-​approved snack, and sports and fitness. Plus, 4-H clubs are offered weekly.

Most Fort Jackson families living off post are enrolled in the Richland School District One or Richland School District Two. 1. Richland School District One

Richland School District One is South Carolina’s ninth-largest school district with 24,000 students representing 57 countries and 26 languages spoken. The district’s 52 schools and special centers are spread throughout more than 480 square miles encompassing urban, suburban and rural communities.

2. Richland School District Two

Richland School District Two, the largest and fastest-growing public school district in the South Carolina Midlands, is serving more than 27,000 pre-K through 12th-grade students in 40 schools and centers: 20 elementary schools, seven middle schools, five high schools, four magnet centers, one child development center and one alternative school. The district offers magnet programs, an adult continuing and technology education center and a charter high school.
