WHERE IS RETIRED GEN. MARK MILLEY (AND HIS MISSING PORTRAIT)?

By Buddy Blouin

Sweeping changes were promised and so far, they’re coming to life. The second term of President Donald Trump is underway and his displeasure with the state of military leadership is on full display. Retired Gen. Mark Milley is one of those who have had a falling out with Trump since his first term and now, he looks to be gone—along with his portrait.

Did Trump Fire Mark Milley?

One of the many people relieved of their duties so far, former General Mark Milley has been removed from his position on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC).

At one time, the retired Army General was the most senior uniformed Officer within The Pentagon, he was even an ally of Trump, but those sentiments have changed in recent years.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that he and his administration were “actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand presidential appointees from the previous administration,” suggesting a lot more is to come.

First Term and January 6th

From 2019 until 2023, Milley was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, our nation’s top military adviser.

He worked with Trump during the last two years of his first term and while he worked to be bipartisan in his position, things changed following the insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Things were already rocky between the two parties due to fears from Milley that Trump’s actions towards the end of his presidency would end up hurting relations with Iran even further, if not causing an all-out war.

This would become compounded after Trump’s response, or lack thereof, to the January 6th incident and growing fears that a second term would put someone in power that could not be trusted with the responsibility.

“A Total Fascist”

Books, interviews, and court hearings would show just how much the two men who once worked together so well had grown far apart.

Mark Milley would call Trump “a total fascist” and continue to criticize his leadership following the billionaire’s first term.

“He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to (Bob Woodward of the Washington Post) about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country. A fascist to the core,” said Milley.

One of the last things Biden did as President was to pre-emptively pardon Milley after Trump claimed Milley committed a “treasonous act…so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH!” in response to him calling China to reassure the nation following the insurrection.

The Mystery of Gen. Mark Milley’s Photograph

Shortly after President Trump’s inauguration, Gen. Mark Milley’s portrait was removed from the Pentagon’s historic Joint Chiefs hallway, which showcases paintings of all prior chairmen since Gen. Omar Bradley.

Unveiled on January 10, 2025, Milley’s portrait was taken down by Monday afternoon, with workers patching and repainting the wall the next day.

Pentagon officials have not explained the removal, but considering Trump’s noted problems with Mark Milley, it’s clear that the rift is only growing.
