NEW JOBS AT THE US ARMY SPACE AND MISSILE DEFENSE COMMAND?
Soldiers are paying more and more attention to the Final Frontier as the U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command works to add jobs dedicated to the cosmos. While the United States Space Force (USSF) continues to grow, other branches of the military still play important roles in protecting our interests throughout the galaxy and here on Earth. This includes Soldiers and Airmen defending against cyberterrorism and missile strikes. The idea for immediate and future Army changes is to involve Soldiers earlier in their careers for a better national defense.
The U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command Wants More Experienced Soldiers
The U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command is looking to add new military occupation specialties (MOS) dedicated to defending space and geared at helping non-commissioned Officers get experience earlier in their military careers.
Since the end of 2023, the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, AL, has been looking to bolster these positions.
It’s no secret that space travel continues to be an increasingly common focus and as technology evolves, there are also missiles and other factors involving warfare that make the heavens a very important place to watch.
But if you don’t have people with the necessary experience to do more advanced jobs in the future, the Army is worried that this could hinder innovation and leadership.
By creating the space-centric MOS, the Army is preparing Soldiers for new roles while fulfilling present and future needs.
New Space-Based MOS Will Take Years
While the Army Space Command is hopeful for the new MOS proposal, there are still several steps that will need to be taken to make the jobs a reality.
Even after submitting, it’ll take weeks to go through the process, and then, leaders within the Army are going to need to make a decision.
Should the leaders accept the new MOS for space, the United States Space and Missile Defense Command is still looking at a potential two-year waiting period before it becomes a reality.
U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command
The initiatives by the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command don’t end with just creating new jobs. They’re also aligning more with what the Army wants the roles of Soldiers to be in the future.
There has been a shift since the U.S. Space Force was created in 2019, with more and more of the Army’s core roles being moved to Guardians over the years.
Now, the Army is focusing on disrupting enemies in space, and joint operations, and is investing more in better organization and function in space.
Disrupting and blocking the cyber and electronic communication abilities of America’s enemies is a big focus, with regional groups dedicated to continents for global reach.
The Army is also helping consolidate data from various points to help better report necessary information.
More development and experimentation involving high-altitude balloons and aircraft are also on the table.
How the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command continues to grow is exciting and the proactive changes look to bolster national defense and the careers of Soldiers serving.
