USCG STATION LAKE WORTH INLET: IN-DEPTH WELCOME CENTER

By Buddy Blouin
Welcome to U.S. Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet, where 40 active duty and 20 reserve Guardsmen help patrol the coastline from Port St. Lucie to Boca Raton, along with offshore operations up to 50 miles. The primary focus of the base is search and rescue. Historically, the U.S. Coast Guard Lake Worth Inlet Station has had an important role in defending our nation and also holds architectural significance. This includes coastal defense and rescue efforts during World War II and strategic measures during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Constructed on a spoil island created by General George W. Goethals, it showcases the Coast Guard's modernization efforts under Admiral Russell Randolf Waesche. The station's original buildings maintain their architectural integrity and character, including a secret fallout shelter built during the Cold War.
