Stationed at USCG Station Noyo River and thinking about camping in Mendocino County? Luckily there are plenty of developed campgrounds in the area that are home to picnic areas, fire rings, and tables. So, if you are looking to connect with nature, check out this complete list of the campgrounds.

Are Campgrounds Open in Mendocino County?

There are several Mendocino County campgrounds available; however, it’s always best to call ahead. Even though we’ve passed the restrictions of COVID-19,and some parks may operate without reservations, there are seasonal changes, weather conditions, hours of operation, and capacity limitations that may cause a campground to be closed at the moment.

16 Mendocino County Campgrounds & RV Parks

1. Mendocino Magic

3000 Branscomb Rd, Laytonville, CA 95454

Around 42 miles northeast of USCG Station Noyo River, you’ll find Mendocino Magic. Representing one of the premier private campgrounds Mendocino County has to offer, the grounds also boast the perfect facilities for hosting outdoor events. Known for its Annual Perseids Meteor Shower Campout, there are also many trails among hundreds of acres of land with the Holland Reservoir filled with trout to top it all off. Traditional campsites, cabins, luxury options, a few RV sites, and more are all available but require reservations. Modern and traditional amenities, such as WiFi and BBQ pits, are available.

2. Sunset Campground

Just over 79 miles east of USCG Station Noyo River is Sunset Campground. Typically open near the beginning of May until early-mid September each year, you’ll find access to a boat launch for Lake Pillsbury and easy access to exploring the Mendocino National Forest. Be prepared before you go; however, as this is one of the campgrounds in Mendocino County that is first-come, first-serve. Cabins and traditional campsites are available.

3. Miti Campground

On Lake Mendocino near Ukiah, CA.

On Lake Mendocino, you can access the Miti Campground. However, this campsite is not only first-come, first-served, but is ONLY accessible by boat. It’s near the Bushay Camp Ground Little Bear Campsite and Kyen Campground. They have reported damage to campsites due to elevated lake water levels. While Miti Campground is reporting that repairs have been made and some sites are still available, the others seem to be closed as of this writing. We advise that you exercise extreme caution before attempting to camp at any of these Mendocino County campgrounds.

4. Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort

About 32 miles east of the base, you’ll find one of the best RV campgrounds Mendocino County has to offer. This is the perfect place for families. They have many different amenities and activities ranging from pools and arcade games, to horses, to casinos, and even wine tasting. The kids and kids at heart all have ample ways to unwind while reconnecting with nature. RVs as large as 60’ will find room available, along with other campsites and cabins.

5. Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA Journey

If we’re being frank, the fact that this is a KOA campsite should be enough to qualify it as arguably the best campground Mendocino County has to offer. Throw in the fact that it takes a breathtaking 38-mile drive from the base down the One to get there and it all comes together. WiFi, RV-friendly, tents, cabins, etc…it’s all here. But the main event is the unparalleled access to the stunning Mendocino Coast along the Pacific Ocean. You won’t find another campsite like this one.

6. Van Damme State Park Campground

About three miles south of Mendocino along Highway One, just over 12 miles from the base, you'll find Van Damme State Park. It features a picturesque beach, a vibrant forest, and camping opportunities throughout the year. The highway traverses the park, dividing the campground and the eastern Fern Canyon trailhead from the Pacific Ocean coastline. In the sheltered cove, visitors can embark on a kayaking adventure or venture into the pygmy forest. The magnificent Fern Canyon Scenic Trail, situated alongside Little River, invites exploration by hiking, jogging, or biking. RVs up to 35’ are permitted, and tent sites are available.

7. Mendocino Grove

Tents and bathhouses keep you comfy at Mendocino Grove but that camping fun and reconnection with nature is what soothes your soul. If you’re looking for the best campgrounds in Mendocino County for glamping, look no further. There are annual events focused on music, food, and crafts, so keep an eye out for the latest fun to be had throughout the year. Just under 10 miles from the base.

8. Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association

Around 10 miles south of USCG Station Noyo River, and with easy access to the 7,400-acre Mendocino Headlands State Park, you’ll find the Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association. There are cabins available to rent and eight different trails for hiking and biking among the beautiful forest.

Note: In order to camp here, you’ll need to book a group campsite, which is meant to facilitate large parties (30 to 200 campers).

9. Russian Gulch State Park

Just under 8 miles from the base, you can find the Russian Gulch State Park offering camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, diving, horseback riding, and more. Get reconnected with nature along the Russian Gulch Fern Canyon trail and enjoy both coastal and forest views. RVs up to 24’ are welcome.

10. Caspar Beach RV Park

About 6 miles south of USCG Station Noyo River, you can ride the Skunk Train, go for a hike, and engage in virtually any watersport you can think of in the Pacific Ocean. RVs, cabins, tents, and campers are all welcome. To top it all off, there are modern amenities such as WiFi and spa-like showers that make Caspar Beach RV Park feel like home.

11. Westpine Campground | MacKerricher

About 6 miles north of USCG Station Noyo River, you’ll find the Westpine Campground inside MacKerricher State Park. You can watch seals and take a guided tour on horseback. In March, there are whale-watching walks. Furthermore, RVs up to 35’ are accommodated, and it’s the perfect place for ocean-based recreation.

12. Wildwood Campground & RV Resort

If you’re looking for more of a staycation, then Wildwood Campground & RV Resort may be the perfect place for you. It’s only about three and a half miles from the base and is one of the best Mendocino County campgrounds for families. There are community events such as movie and karaoke nights, plenty of hiking trails, bath houses, pet-friendly accommodations, and more!

13. Woodside RV Park & Campground

Less than 2 miles south of USCG Station Noyo River is a quaint campground offering Mendocino County views through the simplicity of camping. You’ll have easy access to the Pacific Ocean with both traditional and RV campsites available.

14. Pomo RV Park & Campground

If you head south from USCG Station Noyo River, within five minutes, you’ll find an affordable Good Sam Campground offering traditional and RV campsites with plenty to do. Ride the Skunk Train, enjoy the Botanical Gardens, fish, hike, boat, kayak, and more. All with modern conveniences, such as WiFi and quick access to Fort Bragg, CA.

15. Hidden Pines RV Park Campground

Recreation of all sorts with easy access to the Pacific is available at Hidden Pines RV Park Campground. It’s less than a mile away from the base and offers an ideal place for either a staycation or a nice place for visitors to stay.

16. Harbor RV Park

Offering quick access to the Noyo River, Pacific Ocean, and Fort Bragg, you won’t find a campground quite like the Harbor RV Park. Virtually neighboring USCG Station Noyo River, this is the closest option. Amazing views and recreation help you enjoy the beauty of nature. Fun events and activities, such as beer tastings, firework shows, and whale watching bring it all together as a community.
