Welcome to Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division. Straddling the Tennessee and Kentucky border, Fort Campbell is a major Army installation that hosts the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, the 5th Special Forces Group, and many others. The base spans nearly 105,000 acres, with about 86% of that undeveloped for training maneuvers. Fort Campbell supports approximately 30,000 active-duty soldiers, 51,000 family members, and 6,500 civilian employees. Surrounded by Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Clarksville, Tennessee, you will find plenty of community support both on and off base.

Procedures for Entering the Base

Whether you’re coming to Fort Campbell for a PCS or just to visit, here is some information to help your arrival go smoothly.

Fort Campbell is within an hour of Nashville International Airport (BNA). Other major cities and drive times are listed below.

Clarksville: Drive time from base to downtown Clarksville area is about 28 minutes.

Hopkinsville: Drive time from base to downtown Hopkinsville area is about 25 minutes.

Nashville: Drive time from base to downtown Nashville area is about an hour.

Gates & Hours of Operation

Fort Campbell has many different gates, but the two primary gates are TC Freeman Gate and Gate 7, both featuring their own visitor control centers. Gates 1 through 7 run along Fort Campbell Blvd beginning with Gate 1 in Tennessee and ending at Gate 7 in Kentucky.

T.C. Freeman Main Gate

The T.C. Freeman Gate is the main gate to Fort Campbell. The T.C. Freeman Visitor Control Center is located just outside this gate and is where visitors may obtain a pass for entering through all other gates unaccompanied.

Incoming Personnel

All Soldiers reporting to Fort Campbell must do so at the 1st Lt. J. Robert Kalsu Replacement Company (20th Replacement) with DA Form 31, PCS Orders, Personnel File (201), medical records, and dental records. Army Combat Uniform is required if you check in between 0530 and 1700.

Coming to Fort Campbell? Here’s What You Need For Base Access

Anyone visiting with a Department of Defence (DoD) Common Access Card and/or retired military ID can access the base through any gate.

If visitors (18+) do not have a DoD Common Access Card or retired military ID, they must go to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) with a US ID in the form of a Real ID and/or Enhanced Driver’s License.

If visitors do not have a Real ID/Enhanced driver's license, a retired military ID, a DoD Common Access Card, or a service-connected Veterans Card, they must bring another form of US ID, such as a passport, Social Security card, or birth certificate to the visitor control center.

What ID Do You Need For Base Access?

Anyone with a valid DoD-issued ID card is permitted onto the base. To access the installation as a guest of a valid DoD ID holder, you are required to present one of the following:

  • U.S. Military ID (all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, military retirees and dependent ID card holders, Gov't Civilian CAC card holders)
  • Veterans Health Identification Card issued by the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Passport Card
  • State-issued Identification, such as a driver’s license or identification card issued by a state that meets the REAL ID standards or an Interim Driver’s License issued by a state that meets the REAL ID standards

Privatized Housing/Campbell Crossing

Fort Campbell has privatized housing for families living on base. Fort Campbell partners with Centinel Public Partnerships/Campbell Crossing LLC to provide housing for military families of Fort Campbell, responsible for management, maintenance, and construction. Campbell Crossing offers 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom layouts, bike paths, parks and playgrounds, a pool and splash pad, and so much more! Clarksville, Tennessee is about 30 minutes south of Fort Campbell and home to nearly 190,000 residents. It is the fifth largest city in the state, but growing rapidly. Clarksville has much to explore in terms of art, culture, and local businesses.

Base Schools (K-12)

Schools on Fort Campbell are operated under the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). The base has 4 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school to support the students who reside in Fort Campbell communities.

Off-Base Schools (K-12)
