Welcome to Fort Gordon, Georgia, home of the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence. Fort Gordon is a multiservice community of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, and multinational forces. Across 55,596 acres, service members utilize more than 49 training areas and 11 ranges. Approximately 16,000 service members and 9,000 civilian employees work on base.

Fort Gordon supports a population of approximately 80,000, including military families, contractors, retirees, and others. The base is home to the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, the U.S. Army Signal Corps, and the U.S. Army Cyber Corps. Forge and Project Power!

Procedures for Entering Fort Gordon

Whether you’re coming to Fort Gordon for AIT, a PCS, or just to visit, here is some information to help your arrival go smoothly.

Getting to Fort Gordon

Fort Gordon is within 30 minutes of Augusta Regional Airport. Other major cities and drive times are listed below.

Columbia, SC

Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is Columbia’s Metropolitan Airport. Drive time from base to the Columbia, SC area is about 1.5 hours.

Savannah, GA

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is Savannah’s International Airport. Drive time from base to the Savannah, GA area is about 2 hours.

Atlanta, GA

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is Atlanta’s International Airport. Drive time from base to the Atlanta, GA area is about 2.5 hours.

Gates & Hours of Operation

Fort Gordon has three gates. Gate 6 is the location of the Visitor Control Center. For detailed gate procedures, see the Visitor and Access Information page on the Fort Gordon website. Visitors may pre-register for base access using the online Pass Preregistration Request system.

Gate 6/Main gate

Gate 6 is the main gate to Fort Gordon. The Visitor Control Center is located just outside this gate and is where visitors may obtain a pass for entering through all other gates unaccompanied. All visitors requiring passes and commercial vehicles must enter through this gate.

Incoming Personnel

All AIT Soldiers reporting to Fort Gordon must do so at the 15th Signal Brigade on Barnes Avenue between 26th Street and 27th Street. The staff duty phone number is (706) 791-8314.

All other service members reporting to Fort Gordon should report to their unit for check-in. Unit information may be found on the Newcomers page of the Fort Gordon website.

Visiting Fort Gordon? Here’s What You Need For Base Access

Anyone visiting with a Department of Defence (DoD) Common Access Card and/or retired military ID can access the base through any gate.

If visitors (18+) do not have a DoD Common Access Card or retired military ID, they must go to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) with a US ID in the form of a Real ID and/or Enhanced Driver’s License.

If visitors do not have a Real ID/Enhanced driver's license, a retired military ID, a DoD Common Access Card, or a service-connected Veterans Card, they must bring another form of US ID, such as a passport, Social Security card, or birth certificate, to the visitor control center.

Fort Gordon has one Visitor Control Center outside Gate 6 that can help visitors gain access to the base. For convenience, you may also get a visitor pass online up to 48 hours in advance by clicking the link here.

What ID Do You Need For Base Access?

Anyone with a valid DoD-issued ID card is permitted onto the base. To access the installation as a guest of a valid DoD ID holder, you are required to present one of the following:

  • U.S. Military ID (all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, military retirees and dependent ID card holders, Gov't Civilian CAC card holders)
  • Veterans Health Identification Card issued by the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Passport Card
  • State-issued Identification, such as a driver’s license or identification card issued by a state that meets the REAL ID standards or an Interim Driver’s License issued by a state that meets the REAL ID standards

Eisenhower Army Medical Center

Eisenhower Army Medical Center is complete with primary care clinics, urgent care, pharmacy, lab testing, and more to serve service members, retirees, and families.

Army Military Pay Office (AMPO)

The Army Military Pay Office is dedicated to making sure service members get accurate pay and resolving pay issues.

Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR)

Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR), on Fort Gordon offers a multitude of support to families calling Fort Gordon home. Providence Family Homes is a pet-friendly community—including large dogs! A maximum of two pets is allowed per home, and their policies include certain breed restrictions.

Augusta, GA, Richmond County

Augusta, Georgia, is about 25 minutes north of Fort Gordon and home to nearly 200,000 residents. Augusta is known as the Garden City of the South, home to the Master’s Golf Tournament, and Headquarters of the Professional Disc Golf Association. Augusta offers modern amenities with plenty of southern charm.

Fort Gordon Schools

Base School (Pre-K-8)

Freedom Park School for grades Pre-K through 8 on Fort Gordon is operated under the Richmond County School System. Middle School and High School students living on base are zoned for the Richmond County School System.

Off-Base Schools (K-12)

Students residing in nearby communities off base are included in the Richmond County School System, the Columbia County School District in Georgia, and the Aiken County Public School District in South Carolina.
