The Fort Irwin school district is served by the Silver Valley Unified School District. Silver Valley is composed of an elementary school, an intermediate school, and a middle school, in addition to a second elementary school and a high school off post. Parents can also have their children attend schools in the nearby Barstow Unified School District. Busing is available for students to Silver Valley schools from post, but not to Barstow. There are other school districts in the surrounding area for those living outside of post. And there are other choices for private schools and nontraditional schooling.

Child and Youth Services

You’ll find nationally accredited and certified childcare on post at Fort Irwin. The options here for affordable care at convenient locations will take some weight off your shoulders. The Cactus Corner Child Development Center at 4150 Barstow Road and the Family Child Care Center at 1323 Pork Chop Hill are both great places with loads of childcare options for families. You’ll be able to enroll your child in full or partial day programs. Preschool programs are open for 2, 3, and 5 day schedules. After school programs for children in Kindergarten are also available. A program called Strong Beginnings will take your 4-year-old through school readiness prep every weekday for 3 hours per day. Centers are also available to parents on a flexible basis, providing hourly care for an affordable price. For older children, there are more advanced after school programs available, camps, and more. Babysitting referral is a service that childcare centers offer as well.
