FORT MCCOY HOUSING: 1 ON-POST OPTION

IntroductionWelcome to Fort McCoy, located just between Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin. Fort McCoy is located smack in the middle of Wisconsin and it is roughly a three hour drive to Minneapolis, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and three and a half hours to Chicago. Being located up in the cold Midwest in a small town, you may not want to be far from base or be interested in buying a home to settle here. If that’s the case, Fort McCoy on-post housing may be the best option for you. This guide will help you figure out your on-post housing options on Fort McCoy and get you started.

Wisconsin BAHBasic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is provided for your base based on your rank and location. BAH is given if housing on-base is not available and you are looking at living in the surrounding area. Fort McCoy BarracksUnaccompanied personnel can find housing through the Unaccompanied Housing office. Unaccompanied personnel in the ranks of E1-E5 are eligible for unaccompanied housing on post. In most cases, you will be assigned a room in an area of the barracks set aside for your unit to maintain unit integrity. Single Soldiers should contact the Unaccompanied Personnel Housing (UPH) branch or will be assigned a barracks room upon check-in to their unit.

Fort McCoy Housing OfficeTo apply for Fort McCoy base family housing, contact the Military Housing Office as soon as you receive your orders to Fort McCoy. The MHO team can inform you of the process and notify you of current wait times for housing, if any. For any other information, both accompanied or unaccompanied, on-base or off-base housing, you can check out the Army’s housing website here. Housing on-base is a public-private partnership with Fort McCoy Homes. The Navy manages your housing application and the waitlist. The Privatized Managing Partner manages the lease signing, property management, and meeting the residents’ needs.

Fort McCoy On-Post Housing Options
1. South Post Housing
Note: Even though some neighborhoods may include all ranks, only certain units within that neighborhood may be available to certain ranks. There is one neighborhood on the installation known as South Post Housing. Within the neighborhood are ten distinct floor options broken down to availability between Officer only, Enlisted only, and some by specific ranks of both. A full list of the floor plan types as well as virtual photo tours can be found on the Army’s housing website here. The community is entirely pet friendly including large breed dogs though there are some restrictions on numbers and breeds.
ConclusionMoving is a fact of life in the military, but it doesn’t have to be a huge chore and you shouldn’t have to tear your hair out finding somewhere decent to live and settle your family. On-post housing is a safe, familiar, quality option and the Army will provide plenty of services and amenities to make your time at your new duty station pleasant.
