Where Is Carlisle Barracks?
Carlisle Barracks is adjacent to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Located 18 miles west of Harrisburg, PA, and 27 miles north of Gettysburg. : Use 870 Jim Thorpe Road, and then follow signage on post to your destination.From Harrisburg International Airport or via PA Turnpike (I76)
- Upon exiting the airport follow the signs to PA-283 West and then the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) West.
- Exit the Turnpike at the Carlisle exit, Exit 226 (old exit number 16).
- Once through the tollbooth, stay to the right toward US 11 South and follow the signs to Carlisle Barracks.
- Turn left at Harmony Hall Road (second traffic light).
- Turn right at Claremont Road.
- Turn left at Jim Thorpe & Claremont roads to enter vehicle security point. ID card holders proceed directly to the gate guard. Unescorted visitors use the left lane to the Visitors Center.
From North or South on I81
- Take Exit 52 Middlesex/Carlisle and follow Highway 11 South into Carlisle.
- Left on Harmony Hall Road.
- Right on Claremont Road.
- Turn left at Jim Thorpe & Claremont roads to enter vehicle security point. ID card holders proceed directly to the gate guard. Unescorted visitors use the left lane to the Visitors Center.
From DC Area
- From I495 Beltway west, take I270 North toward Frederick, MD.
- Continue north on Hwy 15 at Frederick.
- Exit onto Hwy 74 (North = left) at Dillsburg , PA.
- Upon reaching Carlisle intersection with Hwy 641/Trindle Road/East High Street (Speedway Gas on right), turn left.
- Proceed one block to N. Spring Garden St.
- Turn right and proceed two blocks to East North Street.
- Turn right and proceed .5 miles to the entrance to Carlisle Barracks at Jim Thorpe & Claremont roads (right turn) to enter vehicle security point. ID card holders proceed directly to the gate guard. Unescorted visitors use the left lane to the Visitors Center.

Guards will conduct a 100% ID check at all gates. All visitors must have a valid military ID or proceed to the visitor control center for a pass. All visitors ages 18 years and older require an Installation Access Pass to enter Carlisle Barracks. Visitors can obtain an Installation Access Pass from the Visitor Center. In order to obtain a pass, all visitors will be vetted through the National Crime Information Center Interstate Identification Index (NCIC-III) and ALERTS for a criminal history check. At the Visitor Center, visitors need to present valid identification for the criminal history check. Typically a driver’s license or state identification is sufficient.Check-In Procedures for Incoming Personnel
Your first stop will be the Visitors Center. Ensure you hand-carry your important documents such as marriage certificate, permanent change of station orders, household good inventories, birth certificates, travel voucher, school records, children's shot records, and anything you do not want to be lost or destroyed. If you arrive at the installation during non-duty hours and require assistance you must contact the Carlisle Barracks Police Station duty officer at 717-245-4342/4115, Building 400. The duty officer will provide you with the contact number for the unit commander or first sergeant so they can get billeting (E6 and below) or any other assistance needed. The soldier is responsible to report to MPSD the next duty day to begin installation in-processing.Carlisle Barracks Visitor Center
