Fort Lee Child and Youth Services

The Fort Lee Child and Youth Services website has a wealth of information and resources for your family. The website links to the post’s many youth services, which include child development centers, youth centers, youth sports programs, and school support services. The School Support Services website has information on area school districts, home schooling in Virginia, special education resources, and the youth sponsorship program, which matches incoming children with a fellow student who can guide them in their new community. The website also has contact information for the post’s school liaison officer, who can provide information and guidance on area schools as well as educational resources for your children. Virginia School Enrollment

To be enrolled in a Virginia school, a child must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 30 of the school year. Registration typically requires a birth certificate or other proof of the child’s age and the child’s previous school records and immunization records. For details on Virginia’s minimum vaccine requirements for students in grades K-12, visit the Virginia Department of Education website. Check with individual schools for additional requirements.

Fort Lee Schools

Children living on Fort Lee attend Prince George County Public Schools. There are currently no DODEA schools on the Fort Lee installation. School-age children living off post attend a variety of other area school districts, including Chesterfield County Public Schools, Colonial Heights Public Schools, Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Hopewell City Public Schools, and Petersburg City Public Schools. Child Care at Fort Lee

Child and Youth Services at Fort Lee offers parents and children a full spectrum of support, with flexible hourly, part-day, and full-day child care options, as well as before- and after-school care for older children. Other programs include SKIES Unlimited instructional programs; youth sports and fitness programs; Parents Night Out; and more. Children must be registered with Parent Central Services for most programs. For information on program fees and registration, visit the Parent Central Services website. Another helpful resource for military families is MilitaryChildCare.com. This DOD website provides comprehensive information on military-operated or military-approved child care programs worldwide. Once you create an account and a profile on this website, you can search the full range of military child care options, request care, and remain on waitlists for a preferred program even after being offered care by another program.
