SHAW AFB HOUSING: ON-BASE OPTIONS

Introduction

Welcome to Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina! Now that you’ve received your orders and are preparing to depart on your next adventure, you’re probably thinking about finding a good place to settle. House hunting can be tedious and even a little overwhelming, so we’ve compiled a guide to help you find a starting point and give you an idea about your choices for housing on Shaw AFB.

Shaw AFB Barracks

Unaccompanied housing is provided for unaccompanied airmen and soldiers in the ranks of E-1 to E-3 and E-4 with less than 3 years of service. Each member is provided a private sleeping room, furnishings, bed linens and supplies. The permanent party UH campus at Shaw AFB consists of three 1+1 dormitories, one 2+2 dormitory, and four Dorms-4-Airmen (D4A) dormitories. Dormitory configurations are: 1+1 - shared kitchen and bathroom concept; 2+2 - shared bathrooms only; D4A - shared common space, i.e. kitchen, living area with flat screens and cable installed, walk-in closets and washers/dryers. Rooms in a D4A include all furnishings and a personal bathroom for each member. Amenities in the 1+1 and 2+2 dormitories include three dayroom layouts which provide a pool table, arcade video games, ping pong tables, flat screen TVs with cable, foosball table and vending machines. Two of the D4A dorms have a single dayroom. Each dorm has a shared pavilion to be used for cookouts and a separate area for smoking. There are also two basketball courts and a volleyball court.

Shaw AFB Military Housing Office

The Military Housing Office should be your first point of contact when you get to Shaw Air Force Base, whether you’re going to live on or off the installation. Newly-assigned Airmen who are not immediately assigned government family or unaccompanied housing are required to report to the Housing Management Office before entering into any agreement for off-base housing. The HSC provides a number of services and are more than capable of answering questions or offering guidance.

Hunt Military Community at Shaw Air Force Base

On-base housing at Shaw Air Force Base is privatized through Hunt Military Community. Hunt owns 633 homes and is responsible for maintaining, repairing and managing the community. Click here to browse their communities at Shaw AFB, each of which offers its own floor plans and amenities. Homes range from 3-4 bedrooms and come in a wide variety of styles, with floor plans ranging from 1790 square feet to 3082 square feet. All floor plans feature 2.5 baths. There are two neighborhoods available: Shaw Heights and Shaw Palmetto Heights.
