Welcome to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and beautiful Alaska! Located right outside of Anchorage, this is probably the best place you could be stationed in Alaska. This isn’t your daddy’s Cold War Alaska where you’re sent here as a punishment. Here you’ll find every modern convenience of American life as you know it, albeit with a tad more snow. Moving can be daunting any time and if you’re not from Alaska, this move could be much more so. Here you’ll find some options for JBER housing which should make your transition a little easier.

JBER BAH

Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is provided for you based on your rank and location. BAH is given if housing on Base is not available and you are looking at living in the surrounding area. JBER Barracks

Dormitories are provided for unaccompanied personnel between the ranks of E1-E3 and E4 with less than three years of service. Each Airman will be provided with a private room which is furnished. Unaccompanied personnel should contact their gaining unit to request a sponsor who will assist you with your move. They should contact the Unaccompanied Housing Management Office to notify them of your arrival date. In most cases, you will be assigned a room in the dormitories in an area that is set aside for personnel in your specific unit.

JBER Housing Office

Wait times for on base vary so your first stop should be to the Military Housing Office (MHO). They can help answer any questions and assist you in making sure your application is in order. Members should contact the MHO as soon as they know they are moving to JBER. JBER-Elmendorf Neighborhoods

1. Cherry Hill

Near the Government Hill gate, this neighborhood features three and four bedroom houses with fenced in backyards, and fully stocked kitchens with appliances. The neighborhood has a theme park, volleyball courts, tennis courts, four playgrounds, gazebo and picnic area.

2. Chugach

Near the Muldoon and Boniface Gates, this neighborhood features four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is easy access to the BX/PX and Commissary, Hospital, shoppette and gas station as well as a basketball court and two playgrounds.

3. Dallas

Near the Government Hill Gate, this neighborhood has three bedroom homes with fenced in backyards, access to day care centers, the gas station, and shoppette. There are also basketball courts, a playground, disc golf, and grills.

4. Dayton

Near the Government Hill and Post Road Gates, this neighborhood has four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There are two playgrounds, gazebos, BBQ area, ice rink, and a basketball court.

5.Denali

Near the Government Hill and Post Road Gates, this neighborhood has three and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to a community center, two playgrounds, gazebo and picnic area, ice rink, and basketball court.

6. Denver

Near the Government Hill Gate, this neighborhood features two and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to daycare and community centers as well as gazebos and BBQ areas, ice rink, playgrounds, and a basketball court.

7. Houston

Near the Government Hill Gate, this neighborhood features two and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There are six playgrounds, an open field, and a basketball court. There is access to the shoppette, gas station, youth center, and Orion Elementary School.

8. Moose Crossing

Near the Muldoon and Arctic Valley Gates, this large neighborhood features two, three, and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the PX/BX and Commissary, Base Hospital, shoppette and gas station, and day care centers. There are 19 playgrounds, 2 basketball courts, a soccer field, volleyball court, sledding hill, theme park, gazebo and BBQ area.

9. New Sunflower

Near the Government Hill and Arctic Valley Gates, this neighborhood features two, three, and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the base day care centers, shoppette and gas station, Orion Elementary School, two gazebos and BBQ areas, volleyball and basketball courts, theme park, disc golf, and four playgrounds.

10. Silver Run

Near the Muldoon and Boniface Gates, this large neighborhood features two and three bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the PX/BX and Commissary, Base Hospital, shoppette and gas station, and day care centers. There are 13 playgrounds, 3 basketball courts, sledding hill, and theme park.

11.Sunflower

Near the Government Hill Gate, this neighborhood features two and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the day care centers, shoppette and gas stations, Orion Elementary School, and arctic bowl. There are gazebos and BBQ areas, volleyball and basketball court, open field, theme park, disc golf, and two playgrounds.

JBER-Richardson Neighborhoods

12. Birch Hill

Near the Richardson and Arctic Valley Gates, this neighborhood features four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the Buckner Fitness Center, a walking trail, playground, and exercise park.

13. Cottonwood

Near the Richardson and Arctic Valley Gates, this neighborhood features three, four, and five bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the base day care centers, Elementary School, Cottonwood Park, 8 playgrounds, theme park, and basketball court.

14. Fireweed

Near the Richardson Gate, this neighborhood features three and four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the Youth Education Center, base library, shoppette and gas station, Fitness Center, Starbucks, The Chill, and the Enlisted Club.

15. Independence

Near the Richardson and Arctic Valley Gates, this neighborhood features four bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the Education Center and library, fitness center, elementary school, and Youth Center.

16. Kodiak

Near the Richardson and Arctic Valley Gates, this neighborhood features three, four, and five bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the base day care centers, education center and library, running trails,playgrounds, gazebo and BBQ area.

17. Moose Haven

Near the Richardson Gate, this neighborhood features four and five bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the base day care centers, education center and library, forest trails, playgrounds, and theme park.

18. Puffin Park

Near the Richardson Gate, this neighborhood features three, four, and five bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the shoppette and gas station, fitness center, Taco Bell, 6 playgrounds, a sledding hill, gazebo and BBQ area.

19. Raven Ridge

Near the Richardson Gate, this neighborhood features four and five bedroom homes with fenced in backyards and full appliances. There is access to the base day care centers, education center and library, forest trails, playgrounds, and theme park.
