Aloha! Welcome to Marine Corps Base Hawaii. MCB Hawaii, or MCBH, provides forward-based, sustainable, and secure training and operational support, facilities, and services so operational forces can accomplish their mission. MCBH's population includes approximately 25,000 Marines, sailors, family members, and civilian employees. MCBH is found on the island of Oahu. The base is on the windward side of the Mokapu Peninsula near Kaneohe Bay. The base is 15 miles northeast of Honolulu and 20 miles northeast of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Upon arrival, contact your assigned unit and your sponsor for in-processing instructions and information. Marines should report to their unit before checking in with the inbound branch of the Installation Personnel Administration Center in Building 1043. Personnel who are checking in should have a reporting endorsement from their command, original orders (to include web orders), airline invoices, vehicle processing center invoices, and any receipts associated with their move. The cost of living in Hawaii is high. Rental housing, real estate, and utilities are expensive. Because land is limited on the island, most rental housing is in the multiplex style and floor plans have limited square footage. Service members who are interested in finding non-military housing in nearby Kaneohe and other Oahu communities can talk to the base's Family Housing Office. There are several options for your child's education near MCBH. Hawaii offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. Children who live on base may attend Mokapu Elementary School, Kailua Intermediate School, or Kalaheo High School. MCBH has a warm, humid climate. In the summer, the average high is in the 80s. Summer nights cool down a bit, with average lows in the 70s.
