These Bases Are Shrouded in Mystery
1. The Cheyenne Mountain Complex
The Cheyenne Mountain Complex is the first (and not the last) of the deep underground mountain bases to make an appearance.
This space force installation/defensive bunker is located 2,000 feet underground in Colorado Springs. This complex is designed to protect fifteen, three-story buildings that are in Colorado Springs from natural disasters, through the incorporation of over 1,000 springs.
It is not open for the public to tour, which adds to the limited information known about the site as a whole.
2. Raven Rock
Raven Rock is kept secret for a very good reason.
This bunker was created back in 1950 to be the relocation site of the Pentagon in case of emergency. This secret base is located deep underground Raven Rock mountain after 10 months of secretly blasting out the mountain’s insides.
Raven Rock can support an upwards of 3,000 people in a crisis, with state of the art technology and basic support requirements necessary for a bunker of the caliber of Mt. Weather.
3. Fort Detrick
The last, though certainly not least, is Fort Detrick. This base is a massive player in the military’s honing of biomedical research. This base’s history goes all the way back to World War I, and it is still used today for the highest level of:
- Biomedical research and development
- Medical material management
- Worldwide communications
- The study of foreign plant pathogens
Although this base is the most public-friendly on this list, there are many restrictions to those that are able to go on base that keep it maintainable for the government to keep track of.
There Are More Secret Bases Out There to Uncover
There are definitely plenty more secret bases out there, but we hope that this list sparked your curiosity. That being said, these are just a few examples of some of the most interesting secret military bases out there. Hopefully this list encourages you to uncover more mysterious bases, even if they aren’t easy to find.
