Military PT Test Standards Compared

Each branch of the military has its own physical fitness test with different events, scoring systems, and passing criteria. Understanding these differences can help you prepare effectively and choose a branch that aligns with your fitness strengths.

General Training Advice

Regardless of branch, focus on three pillars: cardiovascular endurance (running), muscular endurance (push-ups, pull-ups, planks), and core strength. Train at least 4 days per week, alternating between cardio and strength. Progressively increase intensity — don't try to meet the standard on day one.

If you're significantly below the minimums, give yourself a longer preparation window (8-12 weeks). If you're close, 4-6 weeks of focused training can make the difference.

PT standards shown are for initial entry / youngest age group. Standards may differ by age group, unit, and special assignment. Always verify current standards with your recruiter. Data current as of 2026.
