Military Branch Eligibility Checker
Answer 5 quick questions to see if you meet the basic requirements for your target branch — age, education, citizenship, and more.
Military Eligibility Requirements by Branch
Each branch of the U.S. military sets its own eligibility requirements. While all branches share basic standards (age, citizenship, education), the specifics vary significantly — especially around maximum age, waiver flexibility, and fitness standards.
Age Requirements
The Marines and Coast Guard have the strictest age limits (28 and 27 respectively), while the Air Force and Space Force accept applicants up to 39. All branches require a minimum age of 17 with parental consent, or 18 without.
Education Requirements
A high school diploma is the standard. GED holders face higher ASVAB score requirements and limited available slots. The Air Force and Coast Guard are the most restrictive — both strongly prefer or require a diploma.
Waivers
Military waivers allow recruits who don't meet every standard to still enlist, subject to approval. The Army offers the most extensive waiver program. The Coast Guard and Space Force are the most restrictive. Waivers are never guaranteed — a recruiter evaluates each case individually.
