Welcome to Fort Jackson! Located in the middle of Columbia, South Carolina, this is the army’s largest basic training installation. Now that you have your orders and are on your way, you’re probably focused on finding a place to live. Finding a new home can be overwhelming and challenging, especially if you’re moving to a new area. With that in mind, we’ve put together a guide to help you get started and give you an idea of what to expect when it comes to your choices for housing on Fort Jackson.

Fort Jackson Barracks

Bonafide Single or Unaccompanied Soldiers in the ranks of E1-E5 are required to reside in the Freddie Stowers’ Single Soldier Complex. A bonafide single Soldier is a Soldier who would be entitled to a housing allowance at the without dependent rate. Single Soldiers may reside off post, but approval to reside off post must be granted in advance by the Garrison Commander. Living spaces are provided in the eight-building complex, which also has two community buildings with 24-hour access. All Single/Unaccompanied Soldiers are required to in/out process at the Housing Office.

Fort Jackson Housing Office

The Housing Services Office should be your first point of contact when you get to Columbia, whether you’re going to live on or off the installation. The Housing Services Office will assist you in finding suitable and affordable housing in the local community, provide the list of Off-Limits Establishments, school and community info, deposit waivers, etc. They will also assist with landlord-tenant disputes, lease reviews, and check-in/out inspections.

1. Jack’s Inn

Jack’s Inn is an older officer in Family housing in the form of 2-bedroom efficiency style apartments. These units are partially furnished and provided with a limited maid service. Interested parties should contact the Victory Travel Office at 1 (800) 221-3503 or (803) 751-5812.

Fort Jackson Family Homes

Fort Jackson Family homes offer many different styles of homes in varying floor plans across 8 unique neighborhoods. Click here to browse the available floor plans and find the best for you. Homes range from 2-5 bedrooms, and common single-family, townhome, and duplex styles. Select homes are also available to rent to qualified military retirees, DOD civilian employees, and general public applicants. The neighborhoods are walkable and pet friendly and feature several amenities including playgrounds, picnic areas, basketball courts, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, a fitness center, on-site management and maintenance, curbside trash and recycling pickups, and several events and activities for residents. Best of all, the neighborhoods are close to Columbia and everything the city has to offer.

1. Howie Village


: O1 – O3; W1 – W3; Company Grade Officers Howie Village offers three and four-bedroom homes with 2.5-3.5 baths. The neighborhood is located near Fort Jackson Golf Club and Commissary. These homes include a master suite, exterior storage, and a fully-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar. Residents in Howie Village have access to their own playgrounds and a basketball court.

2. Pierce Terrace 1


: E7 – E9 Pierce Terrace 1 offers spacious three and four-bedroom homes with 2.5 baths. These homes feature a master suite with a walk-in closet, a two-car garage, and central heating and air conditioning. Residents have access to multiple playgrounds and are close to the US Army Chaplain Museum, US Army Chaplain Center and School, and Fort Jackson NCO Club.

3. Pierce Terrace 2


: E7 – E9 In Pierce Terrace 2 you will find a variety of three and four-bedroom homes with between two and three bathrooms. Houses in Pierce Terrace 2 feature a master suite and fully-equipped kitchens with breakfast bars and patios. This neighborhood offers several playgrounds and is close to Pinckney Elementary School and Fort Jackson Dog Park.

4. Pierce Terrace 3


: E1 – E8 Pierce Terrace 3 is within walking distance of theCommunity Center and all of its amenities, including basketball and tennis courts and a large playground, as well as Pierce Terrace Elementary School. The homes in Pierce Terrace 3 include 2.5 baths and three and four-bedroom layouts with outdoor patios, garages, and a master suite.

5. Pierce Terrace 4


: E1 – E8 Pierce Terrace 4 features homes with two to four bedrooms and 1.5 to 2.5 baths. These homes have central air conditioning and heating, fenced-in backyards, and fully-equipped kitchens. The neighborhood is within walking distance of several playgrounds, Fort Jackson Dog Park, and Pinckney Elementary School.

6. Pierce Terrace 5


: E1 – E9; military retirees; DOD civilians; general public Piercer Terrace 5 offers two, three, and four-bedroom homes that offer between 1 and 3.5 baths. These homes feature patio space, fully-equipped kitchens, and central heating and air conditioning. The neighborhood is also within walking distance of the Commissary, as well as several playgrounds and elementary schools.

7. Pierce Terrace 6


: E1 – E6 Homes in Pierce Terrace 6 have between three and four bedrooms and 2.5 baths. They also feature a master suite, external storage, and a garage. The neighborhood is near the Community Center, offering easy access to basketball and tennis courts, as well as a large playground. The Commissary and Pierce Terrace Elementary School are also nearby.

8. Pierce Terrace 7


: E1 – E9; military retirees; DOD civilians; general public Pierce Terrace 7 is located near both Pinckney Elementary and a large playground. Houses here come in two, three, and four-bedroom varieties and feature between 1-2 baths. These houses offer patio space, ceiling fans, and fenced-in backyards.
