Laughlin AFB is in Val Verde County in Texas. The base is just north of the United States-Mexico border and the Rio Grande. Del Rio is only 5 miles to the west. San Antonio is about 150 miles to the east.Del Rio International Airport

Upon arrival, contact your assigned unit and your sponsor for specific in-processing instructions and information. Incoming student pilots can bring their in-processing documents to the 47th Student Squadron Transition Office to ensure the proper in-processing steps have been completed prior to base in-processing. The transition office can be reached at 1 (830) 298-5211. Incoming permanent party personnel in-processing is handled at the Military Personnel Element Customer Service Office. This office can be reached at 1 (830) 298-5276. Military personnel must bring all personnel, medical, and financial records for in-processing. Incoming civilian personnel can contact the Civilian Personnel Office at 1 (830) 298-5806. Incoming personnel will be scheduled for a newcomer's orientation, which provides briefings about support services at the base. Spouses are encouraged to attend this orientation. Laughlin AFB is just east of the city of Del Rio. The city has a population of approximately 36,000 people. Del Rio offers residents a host of recreational and outdoor opportunities. Del Rio is home to the Amistad National Recreation Area and Devils River State Natural Area. More outdoor adventures can be had at the city's parks, swimming pools, and athletic fields. There are many options for your child's education near Laughlin AFB. Texas offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. Laughlin AFB has hot summers and mild winters. In the summer, temperatures can soar to the high 90s, with average lows in the 70s. In winter, average highs are in the 60s, with average lows in the 40s. Laughlin AFB gets about 20 inches of rain annually. Obviously snow is rare with such high winter temperatures, but snow is not out of the question.
