Jacksonville, FL
Jacksonville is the largest and most populous city in the entire state of Florida with nearly a million residents. It’s known as the “River City” because of its proximity to the St. Johns River. Jacksonville’s military connection precedes its affiliation with one of the largest naval air stations in the U.S. military. In fact, the city was named after the first military governor of the Florida Territory and the eventual seventh president of the United States, Andrew Jackson. Even though it’s a large city, housing is still quite affordable and plentiful. And the benefit of the city’s size is that there’s always something to do. Jacksonville is home to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, 22 miles of beaches and 20 golf courses. And, if there’s not enough to do in the area, the city is just a short two-hour drive to Orlando, the home of Disney World and Universal Orlando.Orange Park, FL
Head south from the gates of NAS Jacksonville and you’ll quickly find yourself in a little town called Orange Park. The Jacksonville suburb has a population of roughly 9,000. The quiet community is perfect for military and civilian personnel looking for a short commute to work and an affordable place to call home. The average monthly rent of $945 is below the national average and more affordable than what you’ll find in Jacksonville. One of the benefits of living in a smaller town like Orange Park is that you have plenty of opportunities to get to know your neighbors at farmers markets and annual events like the fall festival and Hometown Holiday in the Park.Hot Tip: Look for NAS Jacksonville homes and apartments for rent or sale, and find BAH, PCS, TLA & ETS military housing information at AHRN.com.
