JOINT BASE CAPE COD: IN-DEPTH WELCOME CENTER
Welcome to Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC), a full scale, joint-use base home to five military commands training at home and overseas, conducting airborne search and rescue missions, and intelligence command and control.
Today JBCC is 22,000 acres, 15,000 of which comprise the northern training area, the major training area for Army National Guard Soldiers in the Northeast. The northern, 15000 acres is the largest piece of undeveloped land on Cape Cod, and is home to 37 state-listed species living throughout the base. The southern base is home to training support facilities such as training simulators, hangars, and support facilities for the Massachusetts Army National Guard aviation units and Massachusetts Air National Guard 102nd Intelligence Wing, 253rd Combat Communications Group and U.S. Coast Guard facilities. This includes Coast Guard family housing, with approximately 2,000 residents.
JBCC is home to five military commands, including the Massachusetts Army National Guard at Camp Edwards; the Massachusetts Air National Guard at Otis Air National Guard Base; the 253rd Combat Communications Group also at Otis Air National Guard Base; the 6th Space Warning Squadron phased array radar site at Cape Cod Air Force Station; and the U.S. Coast Guard at Air Station Cape Cod.
These military commands work to protect the land, sea, and air of the northeastern United States.

Directions to JB Cape Cod
Joint Base Cape Cod is found in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Joint Base Cape Cod is located in the Towns of Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Sandwich. It is the largest military instillation in geographical size and covers 22,000 acres on Upper Cape Cod.
Driving Directions From Bourne Bridge to Main Gate:
- Cross Bourne Bridge.
- Take Route 28 south toward Falmouth off of rotary (2nd Right).
- Follow for about 4 miles to Otis Rotary.
- At Otis rotary, travel 3/4 way around rotary and take right into entrance of the JBCC (Connery Avenue).
- Follow Connery Avenue, past the entrance to the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, to Security Gate.
Driving Directions From Route 3, South:
- Cross Sagamore Bridge (Route 3 turns into Route 6).
- Take Exit 1 on right just coming off the bridge.
- Follow to set of lights.
- Take a left.
- Follow to Bourne Rotary.
- Third right off rotary onto Rte 28 South.
- Follow to next rotary; Otis Rotary.
- At Otis rotary, travel 3/4 way around rotary and take right into entrance of the JBCC (Connery Avenue).
- Follow Connery Avenue, past the entrance to the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, to Security Gate.
Driving Directions From Route 6, North:
- Route 6 North headed towards the Sagamore Bridge.
- Take Exit 1.
- Bear right.
- Next left.
- Follow to set of lights.
- Take a left.

- Follow to next rotary Otis Rotary.
- At Otis rotary, travel 3/4 way around rotary and take right into entrance of the JBCC (Connery Avenue).

Entering JB Cape Cod and Base Amenities
Below is the check-in procedure and the required documents needed to gain access to the base.
Check-in Procedures for Incoming Personnel
Everyone 18 years or older who are coming onto base must have a valid pass, or they must be listed on the day pass with their ID information by the end of the day they access base.
All persons must have a valid drivers license or passport number. Those requesting access to the base must also supply the proper Base Access form no later than 1200 the day before. You can enter the base Monday-Friday, not on weekends.

Where Should I Live Near JB Cape Cod?
Many military members and their families call on-base housing their home. However, there are a number of communities neighboring base: Mashpee, Bourne, and Sandwich. The cost of living in this area is moderate and real estate is reasonable.
Mashpee
Mashpee is located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The town population is 15,060 people. It is known for the diverse, natural beauty and majestic view of Nantucket Sound and Vineyard Sound. The town has serval walking paths, dog parks, restaurants, shops, and water-related activities that are perfect for families.
Bourne
Bourne is located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The town population is 20,452. It is know for being the gateway to Cape Cod. The cost of living here is 24.1% higher than the national average. The town has several local restaurants, parks, shopping centers, and museums.
Sandwich
Sandwich is located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. It is the oldest town on Cape Cod with a population of 20,259. It is known for its beautiful beaches and highly rated restaurants. The town is home to the scenic Sandwich Boardwalk, the Shirley Cross Wildflower Garden, and bike paths.
JB Cape Cod Schools
There are several options for your child's education near Joint Base Cape Cod. Massachusetts offers public schools as well as private schools. For younger children, there are a variety of daycare centers located around base. Children on base may attend schools in the towns of Sandwich, Bourne, and Mashpee. Each town's public school district offers a K-12 education.
JB Cape Cod Weather
JB Cape Cod enjoys all four seasons. The summers are warm and temperatures rarely rise above 85 degrees. The winters are generally very cold, windy, and snowy. The temperature typically varies from 26 degrees to 78 degrees throughout the year. The best time of year to visit is late June to mid September.
