Story by SrA Victoria Boyton on 06/17/2019Members of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base assisted with moving furniture from the former Meadow Lane Elementary School into the newly built facility June 14, 2019, in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
The new elementary school will host kindergarten to fourth grade students in a building next door to the former school.
"A lot of our kids go to this school," said Airman 1st Class Aspen Quam, 4th Aerospace Medicine Squadron public health technician. "This new facility is going to be a really good place for them to learn and just a better environment all around."
Members from squadrons throughout SJAFB teamed up to help move the equipment including files, cubbies and desks.
"Airmen began moving equipment shortly after the school bell rang," said Airman 1st Class Tanner Jorissen, 4th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter. "This is a good way for our Airmen to give back to the community."
The three-day moving project encompassed more than 20 Airmen from Team Seymour, added volunteer organizer and lead Jorissen.
The school is scheduled to open its doors for the new school year in fall of 2019.
