Introduction

You’ve received your PCS orders to Fort Knox, Kentucky, home of the world famous Fort Knox Bullion Depository as well as eight major commands and several other major units which make up a population well over 10,000. Located just south of Louisville, Kentucky and along Indiana’s Southern border, this base has a lot of options for school districts and childcare. Here is a short guide to help you get organized as you make your move and get your family settled.

Fort Lee School Liaison Officer

As soon as you get your orders, you should contact the School Liaison Officer at 1 (502) 624-2305 to help guide you through yours and your childrens’ transition. The schools on Fort Knox are part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA). Information about the district, hours, and Superintendent can be found here. There are four schools on Fort Knox including two elementary schools, one intermediate school, and one middle and high school which serves over 1,500 students. Fort Knox sits along the Kentucky-Indiana border and nine county school districts so there are plenty of choices for your children.

Hardin County Schools

Meade County School System

Elizabethtown Independent

West Point Independent School District

Bullitt County Public Schools

Jefferson County Public Schools

Breckinridge County Schools

86 Airport Rd Hardinsburg, KY 40143 1 (270) 756-3000 Another small Kentucky district is made of four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school and technology center.

Nelson County Schools

288 Wildcat Lane Bardstown, KY 40004 1 (502) 349-7000 This district contains an early learning center, three elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools, as well as two Pre-K - 8th grade schools.

Grayson County Schools

LaRue County Public Schools
