Welcome to Naval Air Station (NAS) Key West! This base boasts a tropical island feel while being a premier training facility for air-to-air combat fighter aircraft. The year-round favorable flying conditions make this air station the ultimate combat-ready installation for all military branches.

The Key West island community consists of approximately 25,000 people. Included in that number are the 1,650 active duty Navy members, 2,508 family members, 35 Navy Reserves, and 1,312 civilians. Also included are the service members and their families from the Marines, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard, as well as civilian employees, foreign dignitaries, and retirees.

Where Is NAS Key West?

NAS Key West is located on the Boca Chica Key in Monroe County, Florida. It is the second to last major island in the Florida Keys. The naval base is 4 miles east of the central business district of Key West, Florida.

Airport to Boca Chica

1. Turn left on S Roosevelt Boulevard.

Key West International Airport

The Key West International Airport is located on South Roosevelt Blvd in Key West. If you fly into Key West, contact your sponsor or the Command Duty Officer at 1 (305) 293-2268 for transportation. Be sure to advise them if you are by yourself or are accompanied by your family. Taxi service, Uber, and Lyft are readily available from the airport.

Bus Service

The Greyhound Bus Station is located at the Key West International airport.

Entering NAS Key West and Base Amenities

Guards will conduct a 100% ID check at all gates. All visitors must have a valid military ID or proceed to the visitor control center for a pass.

Check-In Procedures for Incoming Personnel

All newly arriving personnel with orders to report to Naval Air Station Key West will first need to report to Boca Chica Field located on US-1 at mile marker (MM) 8.

If you haven’t received your welcome letter, get in contact with your sponsor or the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) for maps and informational brochures. Three NAS Key West annexes (Sigsbee, Truman, and Trumbo) are located in the city of Key West. The Housing Welcome Center and RV Park are located at Sigsbee Park, as well as the FFSC, Community Center, ATM Machine, NEX, commissary, and Sigsbee Charter School.

Make sure you have your most important documents (like your marriage certificate, PCS orders, household good inventories, school records, birth certificates, travel voucher, and children's shot and medical records) in hand upon entering the base.

There are no DoD schools on NAS Key West. Students who live on base will attend one of 14 public school options in the Monroe County School District. There are elementary, K-8, and charter schools available. Sigsbee Charter School is located on base. What Is the Weather in Key West, Florida?
