Medical and Dental
Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) operates a group of clinics at area military installations.
These clinics provide routine, emergency and ambulatory care is provided to active-duty personnel of all San Diego-based ship and shore commands. The NMCSD appointment center can be reached at 619-532-8225 to make, cancel or reschedule appointments. It is available 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends and holidays. The NMCSD emergency room is open 24/7 for bona fide emergencies only.
Aboard Miramar, all active-duty personnel are first seen at the Branch Medical Clinic, Building 2496. Sick-call appointments must be made by calling 858-577-4656. Patients must check out their medical record from their respective command or unit prior to an appointment. Military sick call hours are 7:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 to 11 a.m. Friday.
Family members and retirees can been seen for pharmacy, optometry, health-promotion classes and Acute Care Area services. All specialty care is referred to NMCSD.
No appointment is necessary for urgent attention at the Acute Care Area, which is also in Building 2496. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 8 a.m. to noon holiday weekends.
After working hours, emergency care can be obtained by dialing 99-911 or by visiting the NMCSD emergency room. For nonemergency care, the Active Duty Primary Care Manager can be reached at 800-453-0491.
Branch Medical Clinics
Branch Medical Clinics are on all San Diego area Naval and Marine Corps installations. A full range of general outpatient health care services is provided to active duty patients. Non-active duty patients are seen on emergency basis only, except for prenatal-midwife programs at the Naval Station San Diego and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado clinics.
Naval Air Station North Island

Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego
In Building 596. Sick-call hours and routine appointments are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 to 11 a.m. Friday. Emergency ambulance service is available 24/7.

Naval Station San Diego

The Miramar Dental Clinic primarily provides care for active-duty military personnel, although family members and retirees may also receive emergency treatment for relief of acute pain and infection. The clinic’s hours of operation are 7 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and 7 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. Call 858-577-7856 to schedule an appointment. Dental sick call is available on a walk-in basis 7 to 9 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Access to care through TRICARE, the military health care program, is dependent upon the patient’s selected program status. TRICARE Prime enrollees have higher priority for appointments in military treatment facilities than nonenrollees. The order of priority for access to health care services in military treatment facilities is:
- Active-duty personnel.
- Active-duty personnel family members enrolled in Prime.
- Retirees, their family members and survivors of sponsors who died on active duty enrolled in Prime.
- Active-duty personnel family members not enrolled in Prime.
- All other beneficiaries.
Active-duty members are automatically enrolled in Prime and are assigned a primary care manager, usually their ship or shore station sick call or clinic.
Family members of active-duty personnel are not enrolled in Prime automatically, and although they pay no enrollment fee, they must elect to enroll. At the time of enrollment, family members chose their primary care manager where they will receive nonemergency health care. Retirees, their family members and survivors of sponsors who died while on active duty who are enrolled in Prime will also choose a primary care manager that is their entry point for nonemergency health care.
All other eligible beneficiaries who are not enrolled in Prime may access the system by calling a TRICARE Health Care Finder at 888-874-9378. The Health Care Finder will determine the first available appointment for that patient.
